Andrew Troeh accounted for nearly 70% of Aberdeen’s scoring as the Bobcats defeated Elma 39-34 on Friday in Elma.

Troeh scored 27 points, 17 in the second half to help the Bobcats (1-1 overall) overcome a nine-point halftime deficit.

Down 30-25 entering the fourth quarter, Aberdeen outscored Elma (0-2) 14-4 over the final eight minutes of the game, with Troeh scoring seven points and Kyle Miller scoring five points and playing “clutch” down the stretch, according to Aberdeen head coach Mark Buckman.

“Nice defensive effort, but still a lot to improve on for the Bobcats,” Buckman said.

Logan Witt was the only Eagle in double-figures with 13 points as Elma struggled to hit shots from the field.

“If we continue to shoot the three we need to start making them or our game plan needs to change,” Elma head coach Matt Ferrier said. “Give Aberdeen credit, they played a great fourth quarter. They earned that victory while we felt the bite of poor shooting and turnovers.”

Hoquiam found some offense but struggled to slow down Centralia in a 77-54 loss on Friday in Hoquiam.

Michael Lorton Watkins scored 19 points to lead Hoquiam (0-2), which broke 50 points after managing just 38 in a season-opening loss to Willapa Valley on Tuesday.

Gio Foster also scored in double digits with 10 points.

Owen McNeil (9 points), Jake Templer (8 pts.) and Justice Stankavich (8 pts.) also got on the scoreboard for the Grizzlies.

Ocosta 51, Pe Ell 35

In a game filled with fouls and turnovers, Ocosta got its defense squared away in the second half to defeat Pe Ell 51-35 on Friday in Pe Ell.

Tied at 26 at halftime, Ocosta (2-0, 1-0 2B Pacific) shored up its defense and held Pe Ell (1-1) to 10 points in the second half to pick up the victory.

Xander Prigmore led Ocosta with 20 points — hitting six field goals and going 8-of-11 from the free-throw line — and grabbing 11 rebounds in the game..

“Overall, another learning game for my team and I,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “We have a lot to work on in practice. The good news is a lot of our mistakes are fixable.”

Three North Beach players scored in double figures to lead the Hyaks to a 75-30 victory over Lake Quinault on Friday in Ocean Shores.

Josh Bighead led the way for the Hyaks (1-0 overall) with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Tre’Vaughn Greene added 17 points, eight boards and two blocks while Daniel Castaneda added 12 points for North Beach.

“It was a great team effort and a nice way to start the season,” North Beach head coach Larry Moore said, citing the defensive hustle of Sam Teague that “got the Hyaks going.”

Aberdeen 47, Elma 22

Maddie Gore scored 18 points to lead Aberdeen to a 47-22 victory over Elma on Friday in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen (2-1) shot 38% from the field on 21-of-54 shooting, with Gore leading the way with seven field goals.

Both teams were ice cold on offense in the early going, with Aberdeen hitting just 1-of-10 shots in the first quarter and Elma going 0-for-10 in the frame.

But Aberdeen started to heat up after the half, scoring 22 points in the third quarter after totalling just 11 in the entire first half.

Elma (0-2) went 1-of-18 from the field in the first half and shot just 15% in the game on 6-of-40 shooting.

The Eagles were led by Aaleigha Weld (8 points) and Janessa Sample (7 pts.).

Grays Harbor struggled from behind the arc in a 74-59 loss to Wenatchee Valley in a Native American Classic invitational game on Friday at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen.

The Chokers (0-7) shot 40.7% from the field (22-53, including 4-of-17 from 3-point range (23.5%).

Wenatchee Valley (5-0) led 31-27 at the half before outscoring the Chokers by 11 in the second half, shooting 50% from the field (25-50) and 43.5% from beyond the arc (10-23).

Willapa Valley’s Logan Walker led Grays Harbor with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

David Featherston Jr. added 12 points for the Chokers.
