Gary was born in Spokane, Washington to Juanita and Jack Chartrey. He is survived by his wife Karen (Urdahl) of 44 years, and his brother Mike.
Gary lived in Spokane for five years and then moved to Aberdeen where he went to AJ West and Hopkins Junior High, and he graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1970. He was a member of Aberdeen’s only undefeated football team.
Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friend Ted. He also enjoyed playing golf with his dad, brother and uncle. Gary also flew competitive kites at Long Beach.
He worked as a meat cutter (trained by his dad) for Swanson’s. Later he went on to be a meat manager for Safeway for many years. He retired and lived in Lacey for 28 years.
He will always be remembered for having a fun disposition and a great sense of humor by all who knew him.
