Montesano overcame an inefficient shooting performance to defeat Seton Catholic 58-23 on Wednesday in Vancouver.

Bolstered by a defense that held Seton Catholic to just one point in the first quarter, Montesano (10-1 overall) opened up a 12 point lead after the first eight minutes of play and led 32-8 at halftime.

The Bulldogs had three players score in double figures and shot 20-for-71 (28%) from the field as a team, a performance Monte head coach Mark Mansfield attributed to impatience on the offensive end of the floor.

“We weren’t very patient offensively and didn’t shoot the ball well,” he said. “We haven’t been on the road for awhile and played a little too fast and sort of forced things.”

Monte was led by McKynnlie Dalan with 17 points and eight rebounds with Jaiden King (14 points, 6 steals) and Paige Lisherness (12 pts., 9 rebounds, 8 stl.) also eclipsing double digits.

The Bulldogs held a 53-17 lead at the end of three quarters and outrebounded Seton Catholic 41-21.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to take on Hoquiam at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Raymond 52, Ilwaco 31

The Seagulls continued their impressive run through the 2B Pacific League schedule with a 52-31 victory over Ilwaco on Wednesday in Ilwaco.

Raymond (9-1, 5-0 2B Pacific) used its defense to shut down Ilwaco (4-7, 4-4), holding the Fishermen to less than 10 points in each quarter of the contest.

“Defensively, our posts did a great job on their physical post kids,” Raymond head coach Jason Koski said. “We played very smart and disciplined in the post on defense.”

The Seagulls led 24-14 at the half but exploded for 22 points in the third quarter to take a 24 point lead into the final period.

“Second half we tried to concentrate on getting a stop, a score and a stop,” Koski said. “We were able to do that multiple times to extend the lead.”

Raymond was led by senior guard Kyra Gardner, who scored a game high 16 points — six in the third quarter — grabbed 12 rebounds and had 11 steals for a triple double.

Seagulls guard Karsyn Freeman and Kyndal Koski each scored 13 points in the game with Freeman scoring eight of her points in Raymond’s big third quarter.

Raymond outrebounded Ilwaco 41-18, holding a 23-1 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Seagulls are set to host Chief Leschi at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Forks 51, South Bend 30

South Bend’s shooting woes continued in a 51-30 loss to Forks on Wednesday in South Bend.

Aside from a 14 point second quarter where it made 6-of-18 (33%) of its shots, South Bend (1-9, 1-5 2B Pacific) failed to break double digits in a quarter, shooting 12-for-71 (17%) from the field for the game.

South Bend trailed by nine at the half as senior Hannah Jewell and Reece Williams were hampered with foul trouble.

“We have asked for improvement each game and the last three weeks have shown that,” South Bend head coach Randy Carlson said. “Terrible shooting and poor selection of shots keeps our team out of some close game. The team’s effort is going in the right direction.”

Raydynn Morley and Elli Capps led South Bend with eight and seven points, respectively.

South Bend is scheduled to play Mary M. Knight at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

PREP BOYS SWIMMING

Mark Morris 82, Aberdeen 70

Competing in the second meet in two days, Aberdeen took on a district foe in Mark Morris on Wednesday afternoon at the YMCA of Grays Harbor.

The visiting Monarchs used their first-place punch to grab eight event wins to hold off the Bobcats, 82-70.

Senior Colton Burns and junior Zach Parker won the 100 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, respectively. Parker joined Foster Patterson, Jamieson Berney and Denny Linker to win the 200 freestyle relay for the Bobcats.

“This was a good learning meet and a very tough meet against a very good Monarchs squad,” Aberdeen/Hoquiam head coach Rob Burns said. “We will see these guys again. It is always great to face them in the pool. Swimming two meets on consecutive days is tough, but a good lesson for later in the season.”

Coach Burns cited Linker, Parker, Logen Seguin and Jacob Hallak for their swims.

On Saturday, Aberdeen will travel to Camas for a triple dual meet against Hockinson and other Vancouver-area schools.
