A protest regarding President Donald Trump’s nominations of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General and Neil Gorsuch for the U.S. Supreme Court is planned for Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grays Harbor County courthouse in Montesano.
Organizers are from a newly-formed group of area residents called People for Justice. “We’re just a group of folks who are deeply concerned with the actions of the Trump administration, particularly as they relate to civil rights, women’s issues and just general fairness,” said Diane Wolfe. She added the group came together spontaneously when they heard about the Roanoke Republicans gathering in Ocean Shores last week. “We thought the Republicans needed to hear from us, so we went and called a few of our friends and said we’re going to go hold signs. I’d say a dozen or more showed up.”
Wolfe said she was encouraged by the turnout despite the short notice. “I think it shows the people in Grays Harbor County really do care what’s going on nationally,” she said. “I mean, if they can bar people from coming into this country based on their religion, then where does it stop?”
Wolfe said People for Justice chose the location for this protest “because that’s our courthouse. That’s where our justice comes from. And really, all justice is local.”
