Petty Officer 3rd Class Adolfo Sanchez, a former Aberdeen resident and graduate of Montesano High School, serves aboard one of the world’s largest warships, the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

Sanchez, who joined the Navy two years ago, serves as a gunner’s mate.

“I joined the Navy for the multitude of opportunities and realized my full potential,” said Sanchez.

“Being promoted to petty officer third class is my biggest accomplishment in the Navy so far,” he said, adding, “serving in the Navy has provided me the opportunity to become financially literate and pursue educational opportunities.

During the USS Carl Vinson’s most recent deployment the ship was underway for 262 days, conducting dual carrier operations and multinational exercises, including maritime security operations and integrated training between surface and air units.
