Hoquiam’s hopes for a 1A Evergreen League title were dashed after suffering a doubleheader sweep against Eatonville on Tuesday at John Gable Park in Hoquiam.
The Grizzlies (10-5 overall, 7-3 1A Evergreen) lost to Eatonville (12-3, 8-1) by scores of 13-5 and 20-8, falling two games behind the Cruisers for the league’s top spot.
In the first game, Hoquiam opened up a 4-1 lead in the second inning as Eatonville played fast and loose with the ball, committing two errors and a wild pitch that led to four Grizzly runs in the frame.

But over the final five innings of the game, Eatonville did what it does best — mash the ball.
The Cruisers belted four home runs in the game and three doubles, extending to an 8-4 lead on a three-run blast by catcher Brooke Blocker in the sixth and a 13-5 lead off a Dakota Smith two-run shot in the seventh.
Hoquiam, meanwhile, scored just one more run in the game off reliever Sara Smith, who replaced Eatonville starter Berkeley Porter after Porter ran into trouble in the Grizzlies’ four-run second inning.
The Grizzlies cut the Eatonville lead to 9-5 in the bottom of the sixth when pinch-runner Avery Templer crossed the plate on a sharp single off the bat of shortstop Graci Bonney-Spradlin.

Hoquiam pitcher Carron Blood took the loss, allowing 13 runs on 13 hits with four strikeouts and eight walks in seven innings pitched.
While the Grizzlies fared better in the nightcap, they couldn’t slow down the Eatonville offensive juggernaut in a 20-8 loss.
Eatonville hammered five home runs in the game — two each by Dakota Smith and Hailey Rath — off Hoquiam pitching, including a grand slam by Rath in the Cruisers’ seven-run seventh inning.
Hoquiam, which managed just three hits in Game 1, cracked seven hits in the nightcap, including a three run-home run by Blood that tied the game at 4-4 on the bottom of the third.
Hoquiam was led by second baseman Ella Folkers, who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Blood drove in four runs and first baseman Avery Howard had a double for the Grizzlies.
Hoquiam pitcher Kayte Sauer took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 12 hits in five innings pitched.
Hoquiam sits a game ahead of Montesano for the league’s No. 2 spot and faces Eatonville in the rubber match at 3 p.m. Friday at Eatonville High School.

Timmons tosses no-hitter in Monte sweep
Montesano pitcher Riley Timmons threw a seven-inning no-hitter in a doubleheader sweep over Tenino on Tuesday in Montesano.
Montesano (8-8, 6-4 1A Evergreen) took the first game 6-0, with Timmons dazzling in the circle.
The sophomore right-hander brought her A-game on Tuesday, holding Tenino (1-16, 0-10) to just two base-runners on a two-out walk in the sixth and a hit batter in the seventh. Timmons struck out 11 in adding her name to the decorated program’s record book.
Timmons had plenty of run-support as Monte jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on senior shortstop Paige Lisherness’ two-run home run, scored a run on an error in the second inning and another on a Lisherness single in the third.
Lisherness drove in four runs while second baseman Jordan Karr went 3-for- 4 with three runs scored in the victory.
In the nightcap, Montesano got a home run from catcher Ali Parkin and three more hits from Karr in an 11-1 mercy-rule win.
Parkin led off the fourth inning with a home run to put Monte up 4-0 and the Bulldogs walked off with a win when Kaila Hatton singled to score Alli Mills to complete a five-run sixth inning.
Karr had six hits and five runs on the day, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI in Game 2.
Montesano now sits a game behind Hoquiam for second place in the 1A Evergreen League with two league games left on its schedule.
The Bulldogs face Tenino at 4 p.m. on Friday in Tenino.

Raymond sweeps Ocosta
Raymond swept a doubleheader over Ocosta, winning by scores of 6-5 and 8-7 on Tuesday in Raymond.
In Game 1, the Seagulls (12-4, 10-3 2B Pacific) trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning but tied the game when Callie McVey — aboard with a leadoff double — scored on an error and walked off with the win when Grace Busenius singled to score Alia Enlow with one out.
In the nightcap, Raymond pitcher Sidney Swogger held off a late Ocosta rally to pick up the victory.
Swogger allowed four earned runs on 10 hits and got the Wildcats out 1-2-3 in the seventh inning to secure the complete-game victory.
Ocosta’s Annika Hollingsworth and Jessie Gilbert each homered in the twin bill while Raymond’s Kyndal Koski had four hits and scored six runs in the two games.
Third-place Raymond takes on Rainier in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Fourth-place Ocosta (9-6, 8-6) hosts Toledo at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Eighth-ranked Pe Ell-Willapa Valley completed a perfect league season with a twin bill sweep over North Beach on Tuesday in Pe Ell.
PWV (14-2, 14-0 2B Pacific) downed the Hyaks (0-14, 0-12) 16-0 and 19-0, holding the North Beach offense without a hit in earning two three-inning victories.
PWV will enter the district playoffs as the 2B Pacific League’s No. 1 seed and will face Castle Rock at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
