The world lost an incredibly kind man when James “Jim/Pops/Papa Jim” Andrew Boyd, equal parts Rodney Dangerfield and Mother Theresa, passed away peacefully on May 26, at age 86.

Jim’s religion was humor and kindness. He loved everyone on his joyful path and lived in constant generosity and gratitude.

Born in Tacoma, Washington on Oct. 24, 1935, to Frank and Leah (Kahn) Boyd, Jim grew up in Fircrest, graduated from Stadium High School, studied at Washington State University and was student body president at the University of Alaska.

Jim served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea, Alaska and California and lived in Los Angeles and on Oahu before returning to Washington state.

Jim owned and operated the Cove Drive-In in Westport from 1972-1987, then moved to Aberdeen where he worked as a real estate agent and property manager, with his wife and best friend, Dee, until her passing in 2019.

Jim spent the last years of his life close to family in Olympia, Washington.

The family thanks the staff of Sequoia Assisted Living and Assured Hospice for their devoted care. True to his loving nature, Jim joked with and lavished compliments on his family and caregivers during his multi-year illness — even on his deathbed, he thanked everyone endlessly and reminded us how beautiful we are. What a gift!

Jim is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger Boyd, and his loving wife Dee (Horn) Boyd. He is survived by his son Brian Boyd, stepchildren Jarrid (Kris) Horn and Shauna Cearley, grandchildren Elsa and Isak Boyd, Stevie, Cody and Brody Cearley, and Hayly Tavenner.
