Beverly Ann Smith Lenderman

Beverly Ann Smith Lenderman was born Oct 2, 1934, in Colville, Washington.

Beverly Ann Smith Lenderman was born Oct 2, 1934, in Colville, Washington to Alvin Smith and Wanda Broderius.

She was a graduate of Northport High School. As a teen she spent many years taking care of her grandfather Clarence/grandmother Christina along with working a part time job at the theater in Northport and dry cleaners in Colville.

Upon her father’s death she took custody of her brother Alvin Smith. She met and married Ernest Mark Lenderman in 1954 in Northport, Washington, and they married on Sept. 11, 1954. Bev and Mark lived in Marcus and Evans, Washington on a ranch for several years where Bev milked cows, butchered chickens and made homemade maple bars until Mark commented there was too much yeast and that was the end of that. They were helped on the farm by Mark’s sister Marian and brother Larry who lived with them.

Mark was injured in an industrial accident in 1959 while Bev was pregnant and was in the hospital for approximately eight months in traction and eventually lost his leg.

This took their life in a different direction in the 1960s, and they moved to Spokane where Mark went to drafting school and Bev took nursing aide classes at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane. Upon Mark’s graduation from drafting school he moved to Hoquiam, Washington for a job at Lambs Grays Harbor, and the family followed in approximately four months.

They bought a home in 1963 for approx $13,000. Bev worked in local nursing homes and as a waitress while she was also going to school at Grays Harbor Community College where she got a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Eventually she got a job working at Grays Harbor Community Hospital and was an officer for the LPN association and a member of the credit union board. She worked in OB, medical surgical unit and cardiac unit but her greatest love was the Emergency Department. She also worked for Dr. Rickett, an orthopedic who came down from Seattle weekly. Bev loved helping patients and was truly an advocate for the patient.

In the early years, she loved to bowl and play golf and later years was a master crafter, making beautiful Christmas pillows, wreaths and crafts.

Upon her own failing health in 2018 Bev sold her beloved home of over 50 years and moved to Longview, Washington with her daughter and son-in-law. This was a very difficult move for Bev, and she always considered Hoquiam her home. Beverly had a quick wit and always had a comeback when someone tried to get one over on her.

She will be dearly missed by her family and no service will be held at this time. Cremation has already taken place.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, sister Verna, brothers: Roy, Bud, Alvin, Dick and Lee and beloved daughter-in-law Tammy in 2021. She is survived by her daughter Bunny (Robert), son Scott, grandchildren: Darren, Jessica Huitt (Michael) and Michael (Jadean), Valerie Flaherty of Montana, Rob Halverson of Rainier, Oregon, and Darlene Gutbrod of Oregon along with great-grandchildren: Logan, Mason, Hayden Huitt and four step-great-grandchildren all in Longview, Washington. She is also survived by her sister Benetta Hill and Ron Mally both of Spokane, Washington.
