Montesano got plenty of offense in a convincing 5-0 victory over Castle Rock on Tuesday at Castle Rock High School.
Bethanie Henderson led the way for Monte with two goals and an assist as the Bulldogs (2-1 overall) pelted the Rockets net with 26 shots, 13 of which were on-goal.
Monte got on the board quickly when senior forward Lilly Causey netted her third goal of the season with a shot and score in the fourth minute.
The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into the half when Anabelle Estrada scored in the 32nd minute.
Henderson then got to work, scoring a goal in the 49th minute followed by an assist on a Sam Roundtree score just over three minutes later.
Henderson put the icing on the cake with a goal in the 78th minute to complete the scoring.
“They’re looking pretty good,” said Monte head coach Fidel Sanchez, whose team played its third game in five days.
Monte also got some good news in that one of its key players from last season’s district championship and fourth-place state team made a return to the pitch after being out for the first two games of the season.
Senior Vanna Prom, a steady and consistent midfielder, played nearly a full hour of game time after being sidelined last week due to a dental procedure.
Montesano is still without starting midfielder Jaiden King, who is out due to an ankle injury.
Monte’s coaching staff has been building the program with a “don’t rebuild, reload” mentality through depth and versatility.
“That’s why we carry 18-20 players in the locker room. We believe that other players that come up to play varsity should be able to play at that level,” Sanchez said. “It’s very important for us, especially because we wanted to develop the younger players for them to get some quality minutes at the varsity level. It is huge for the program in the future. That’s our philosophy is that we have to get those younger players ready to play because at any given moment you don’t know what is going to happen and you have to be ready to roll.”
Montesano’s defense allowed just four shots in the game — one on-goal — helping junior goal keeper Riley Timmons earn her second clean sheet in three games.
Monte’s JV team tied Olympia’s C-squad 2-2 on Tuesday. Ember Jones and Hazel Jones scored a goal apiece for the Bulldogs.
Next up for Monte is a game in Centralia set for noon on Saturday.

Elma opened its season with a straight-set loss to district-powerhouse La Center on Tuesday at La Center High School.
Elma (0-1) lost 14-25, 18-25 and 17-25.
Senior Torrey Thompson led Elma with five aces while sophomore Ally Warren recorded a team high 11 digs for the Eagles.
“We had a lot of positives come from tonight,” Elma head coach Kendra Dunn said. “We gradually got better throughout the match. … I’m excited about this team and the versatility we have.”
Elma will compete at the Hoquiam Volleyball Jamboree scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hoquiam High School.

Montesano 170, Seton Catholic 178
Trey Sweeney and Cole Sigler led Montesano to a 170-178 victory over Seton Catholic on Tuesday at Oaksridge Golf Course in Elma.
Sweeney led the way with a 9-hole round of 39 with Sigler close behind at 40.
Zander Jones (43) and Ayidn Sauer (48) rounded out Montesano’s top four.
Seton Catholic’s Jacob Perleer won Medalist honors with a low round of 37.
Montesano is scheduled to compete against La Center at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield.
