Donald was born 96 years ago on Jan. 16, 1926. He was one of eight children raised on the family farm near Camp One by his parents Hugh and Margaret Wiseman. Early in life he decided he was not the farming type. Milking cows by hand morning and night was not his favorite pastime.

He graduated from Valley High School in 1944 and was immediately drafted into the Navy. He married his longtime sweetheart, Mary Crumbaugh, on November 16, 1945. After being discharged from the Navy on May 16, 1946 he returned to Raymond where he and Mary lived happily for 73 years. In 2019, Donald and Mary moved to Brookdale senior living in Olympia to be closer to family. He passed from this life at Providence Hospital in Olympia on Sept 10, 2022.

While attending Valley schools he excelled in both basketball and football. During summers he played baseball on various Raymond town teams. During those years it is safe to say that his main interests were Mary Crumbaugh and sports.

Shortly after being discharged from the navy, he accepted a position with the telephone company in Raymond where he worked until his retirement 38 years later.

Don always loved working with young people. He coached little league and Babe Ruth for many years, developing lifelong relationships with so many. He was a past president of the Willapa Valley Booster Club. During the winter months he spent many nights officiating both high school and small college basketball. He was honored to officiate state basketball tournaments at all levels.

After retirement he and Mary built a cabin at Mayfield Lake which they enjoyed with family and friends.

Don is survived by his wife Mary of 77 years. He and Mary had three children. Doug and wife Sherri of Olympia, Larry and wife JoAnne of Vancouver and Marilee and husband Earl Shepard of Mount Vernon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Willapa Valley Booster Club.

Graveside services will be held at Fern Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022 . A celebration of life will follow at the Old Willapa Methodist church.
