Raymond’s seven-game win streak to start the season was snapped after dropping a five-set match to Napavine on Wednesday at Napavine High School.
Raymond (7-1 overall) lost the non-league match by scores of 14-25, 10-25, 25-22, 28-26 and 15-9.
The Seagulls looked like a “deer caught in headlights” in the early going, according to Raymond head coach Julie Jewell.
“We were overwhelmed at first,” Jewell said of the match’s opening minutes. “Napavine came at us and we couldn’t find our rhythm.”
After dropping the first two games, the Seagulls rallied back to take the next two after Jewell tweaked some aspects of their game.
“We reground and made some adjustments,” she said. “We were able to get our offense going.”
In the fifth and final set, Raymond jumped out to a 5-1 lead and were in prime position to pull off the incredible comeback, but Napavine (4-2) won seven straight points as Raymond was stuck in rotation, leading to the 15-9 loss.
“It stinks to lose, but it’s games like this that make us better,” Jewell said. “I’m proud of how we battled back and took control of the match in games three and four.”
Karsyn Freeman had 17 kills to lead Raymond while Alia Enlow (8 kills, 3 aces, 6 blocks, 100% service) and Caton Swogger (6 kills) also filled up the stat sheet.
Raymond’s JV team won 30-28 and 25-18 on Wednesday.
The Seagulls will host South Bend at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Montesano 3, Tenino 0
Montesano snapped a short two-game skid with a straight-set victory on Tuesday in Tenino.
The Bulldogs won their 1A Evergreen League opener by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-7.
Monte (3-5, 1-0 1A Evergreen) was balanced in both the offensive and defensive aspects of the match.
Maia Young led the offensive attack with nine kills followed closely by Ashlyn Devereaux (7 kills) and Addie Winter (6 kills).
Karissa Otterstetter and Jordan Karr set the table for Monte’s hitters, recording 14 and 11 assists, respectively.
Liv Robinson had five aces for Monte with Clara Benton recording three solo blocks for the Bulldogs.
Montesano plays at Eatonville at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Adna 4, Ocosta 0
Ocosta struggled to find offense against Adna’s pressure in a 4-0 loss on Wednesday in Westport.
Adna (5-1, 3-0 2B Central-North) scored two open-net goals in the first half as Ocosta (3-4-1, 1-1) miscommunication issues on defense led to a first-half deficit.
The Pirates kept the pressure up in the second half to score a pair of goals three minutes apart.
Ocosta head coach Mike King commented on Adna’s ability to force Ocosta into playing a defensive game.
“Adna moved to the ball much better than we did,” he said. “We couldn’t string together any passes to get the ball out of our defensive end.”
Ocosta hosts Ilwaco at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Grays Harbor scored a goal for just the second time this season in a 7-1 loss to Green River College on Wednesday in Auburn.
Down 1-0 in the first half, former Hoquiam Grizzlies forward Sadie Carlyle scored an unassisted goal to tie the game in the 33rd minute for the Chokers (0-10, 0-8 NWAC West).
Green River (4-6-1, 3-4-1) responded with a goal less than five minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the half and scored five unanswered goals in the second half to secure the victory.
GHC hosts Lower Columbia at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Elma 180, Seton Catholic 182
Led by another all-around team effort, Elma defeated Seton Catholic 180-182 on Tuesday at Oaksridge Golf Course in Elma.
The Eagles were led by Traden Carter, who shot a 41 for his 9-hole round, and got sub-50 rounds from Blake Corr (45), Grant Vessey (46) and Quinton Osbun (48).
Elma’s depth was on display in the match as Robbie Allen (49) and Brody Palmer (52) had respectable rounds but failed didn’t make it into the final tallied score (top four golfers counted).
Elma’s JV team won on Tuesday by a score of 196-233.
Cason Seaberg lead Elma JV with a score of 44.
Tenino 183, Hoquiam 190
Hoquiam’s top golfers sparkled but it wasn’t enough as the Grizzlies fell to Tenino 183-190 on Tuesday at the Tahoma Valley Country Club in Yelm.
Mick Bozich and Riley Montoure matched or bested their season-low scores with a 39 and 41, respectively.
Bozich took Medalist honors but a consistent effort by the Beavers’ top four proved to be the difference.

Four Montesano golfers shot below 50 to lead the Bulldogs to a 183-214 win over Kalama on Wednesday at Oaksridge Golf Course in Elma.
Monte’s Gavin Root shot a 42 to earn Medalist of the Match honors followed by Zander Jones (44), Josh Wills (48) and Ayhdn Sauer (49).
Kalama was led by Cooper Hahn, who shot a 48 on Wednesday.
