Aberdeen senior Zach Parker claimed two victories to highlight the Bobcats’ season-opening Evergreen 2A dual meet with league-rival Shelton on Wednesday at the YMCA of Grays Harbor.
Parker won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly to lead the Bobcats.
“This is a young and relatively inexperienced squad this season,” Aberdeen head coach Rob Burns said. “Parker came through with wins in key events for us and the whole team competed very well in their first dual meet of the season.”
Parker edged out Shelton’s Wyatt Anthis by 0.08 of a second to win the 50 free. The senior returned quickly to take the 100 butterfly for the Bobcats’ lone event wins of the day.
Freshman Zeke Olson took second in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, while sophomore Denny Linker added a second in the 100 freestyle and sophomore Tony Hatlested took second in the 100 backstroke.
The Aberdeen coaches cited those swimmers, along with freshman Tyson Powell and sophomore Jacob Hallak for their performances.
