Raymond used a balanced offensive attack to defeat South Bend 80-21 on Tuesday at Raymond High School.

The Seagulls (9-4 overall, 5-2 2B Pacific) opened the game sharing the ball and scoring buckets, jumping out to a commanding 30-5 lead after a first quarter in which five Raymond players scored two or more field goals.

The second quarter resembled the first as the Seagulls outscored South Bend (1-11) 27-3 led by junior guard Kyndal Koski’s eight points in the frame.

“Good first half for our kids. They played hard, smart and efficient on both ends of the floor,” Raymond head coach Jason Koski said. “I was really impressed with their attention to detail those first two quarters, playing within our system.”

Raymond won the third period 18-5, getting points from six different scorers, and were able to give its starters a rest for the fourth quarter.

Koski led Raymond with 21 points to go along with four assists.

Younger sister Kassie Koski scored 18 points and had five steals while leading-scorer Karsyn Freeman nearly had a triple-double with 14 points, 10 assists, eight steals and six rebounds.

“Having Kyndal and Kassie hit their shots really makes us balanced and hard to guard,” Koski said.

South Bend was led by Avalynn Stigall and Raydynn Morley with seven and six points, respectively.

“Raymond played very well tonight,” South Bend head coach Jon Schray said. “To our girls’ credit, we never stopped playing hard or quit each other. We did have some bright spots that we can build on.”

Mossyrock 64, Willapa Valley 25

Cold shooting combined with a red-hot opponent led to Willapa Valley’s 64-25 loss to Mossyrock on Tuesday at Mossyrock High School.

Willapa Valley (8-5, 5-1 1B Columbia Valley) trailed 13-7 at the end of the first quarter before Mossyrock (5-0, 3-0) erupted for 21 points in the second frame to take a 24-11 lead at the half.

“I thought we played a good first quarter, but after that it was steadily downhill,” Willapa Valley head coach John Peterson said. “My kids never quit. I’m really proud of them for that. It would be really easy in a game like this to go and hide but they kept battling. They always do. While a loss like this is difficult to take, we just have to flush it and go on to the next game.”

Willapa Valley plays at Columbia Adventist at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
