Oran “Sonny” Gene Johnson of Aberdeen passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, peacefully in his home.

Oran “Sonny” Gene Johnson of Aberdeen passed away Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, peacefully in his home. Sonny was born on March 29, 1940, to Joye Yvonne Fenton and Denver Finus Johnson in Aberdeen. He was raised in Humptulips and moved to Aberdeen in 1958. He married Mary Kathleen Muhlhauser on June 4, 1960. They spent 62 years happily together.

Sonny graduated from Lake Quinault High School and attended Grays Harbor College. He worked at the Grays Harbor PUD as a maintenance foreman for 28 1/2 years. Sonny was a member of the Aberdeen Eagles and Hoquiam Elks and enjoyed visiting the 40 et 8.

Sonny enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his wife and family. He was well-known to his community as “The Handyman.” After retirement he filled his time by doing handyman jobs for anyone and everyone. His favorite things to do were eat chocolate, take naps, trips to the casino, spend time with his lifelong friends Bill and Linda Fitts and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Oran “Sonny” Johnson is survived by wife wife, Mary, two children: Oran Johnson Jr. (Rita Johnson) of Rockford, Michigan and Shellie Johnson (Rick Walters) of Aberdeen, Washington, his four grandchildren: Brittany Noll (Tim), Brandon Johnson, Ryan McCue (Erica) and Alisha Liscombe (Blake); and his four great-grandchildren: Avery and Hadley Noll, Denver Johnson and Tallyn Liscombe.

Other family members include his twin sister Joan”Sis” Beck, brothers-in-law, Larry Muhlhauser (Ute), Fritz Muhlhauser; and sisters-in-law Jenny Cochran (Mike), Joann Anders (Les) and Cindy Clements. Sonny was an uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Sonny’s celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Hoquiam. This will be a potluck. A viewing was held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen.
