Montesano nearly pitched a shutout in a sport where shutouts are incredibly rare.
The Bulldogs held Tenino scoreless for three quarters en route to a 67-5 win on Thursday at Montesano High School.
Monte (13-3, 5-0 1A Evergreen) opened up a 30-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 44-0 lead at the half.
Tenino (3-14, 0-5) scored all five of its points in the fourth quarter, avoiding the improbably shutout.
“We got on them early and our defense did a nice job,” Monte head coach Mark Mansfield said. “We moved the ball well with six different players scoring in the first quarter.”
Monte was led by star forward McKynnlie Dalan with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Dalan was one of four Bulldogs to score in double figures, joining younger sister Evanjillie “Jillie” Dalan (13 points, 8 rebounds, 7 steals), Jaiden King (10 points, 4 assists) and Maia Young (10 points).
Monte went 28 for 65 from the field (43%) and 11 for 20 (55%) from the free-throw line as a team.
The Bulldogs host Seattle Academy at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Hoquiam 60, Elma 39
Hoquiam used a big third quarter to pick up a 60-39 league victory over Elma on Thursday at Elma High School.
The Grizzlies (9-5, 3-2) trailed the Eagles (2-10, 1-4) 15-9 after Elma played aggressive from the opening whistle, led by junior Aaleigha Weld’s six points in the period.
But Hoquiam began to climb back into the game in the second quarter and eventually took a 24-23 lead at the half. Senior center Chloe Kennedy scored 11 of the Grizzlies’ 15 points in the period.
Hoquiam took control of the game in the second half. Sparked by the play of senior forward Ashlinn Cady’s 11 points, the Grizzlies outscored Elma 22-3 in the third quarter to take a commanding 46-26 lead entering the fourth period.
Kennedy (21 points, 10 rebounds), Cady (15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Bonney-Spradlin (13 points, 9 assists, 5 steals) scored in double figures for the Grizzlies.
“Great road win in a very tough environment,” Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan said. “Everyone played a role today. Chloe Kennedy made a huge impact for us as Ella Folkers and Graci Bonney-Spradlin were relentless on defense. But Ashlinn Cady was once again our spark that got everyone going in the second half. Avery Howard played huge minutes for us tonight and contributed on both sides. … Elma is a tough place to play and that team just continues to improve under Coach Brandi Henry’s leadership.”
Elma was led by Weld with 13 points.
Jacki DeMoss, Emmie Spencer and Olivia Moore each scored seven points for Elma.

Raymond remained in the second spot in the 2B Pacific League with a 63-48 win over Chief Leschi on Thursday in Puyallup.
The Seagulls (12-4, 8-2 2B Pacific) led 19-8 after one period as sophomore guard Karsyn Freeman scored eight points in the first quarter.
Leading 32-28 at halftime, Raymond outscored the Warriors (7-6, 4-4) 18-11 in the third quarter, paced by junior guard Kyndal Koski’s nine points on three 3-pointers.
Raymond went 4 of 7 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.
Koski led the Gulls with 19 points to go along with four rebounds.
Freeman (18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals) and Kassie Koski (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals) also scored in double figures for Raymond, which had 40 rebounds as a team, 16 on the offensive glass.
“Defensively in the third, we were much more disciplined with Emma Glazier giving us a great spark off the bench and having Kyndal hit three 3-pointers that really gave us a boost on offense,” Raymond head coach Jason Koski said. “Team rebounding once again was crucial to our success tonight.”

Willapa Valley’s defense was the key in a 51-33 win over Taholah on Thursday in Menlo.
The Vikings (11-5) held the Chitwhins (10-2) to four points in the first quarter to jump out to an eight-point lead.
Taholah outscored Willapa Valley 16-11 in the second quarter to trail 23-20 at the half.
The Vikings’ defense clamped down again in the third quarter, holding Taholah to four points in the frame to take a 39-24 lead into the fourth quarter.
Willapa Valley allowed nine points in the final period to pick up the non-league win.
“The difference tonight was our defense,” Willapa Valley head coach John Peterson said. “We played really good defense against a good team. I’m really proud of the girls for that.”
Senior Grace Huber led Willapa Valley with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman Rilyn Channell scored 11 points and hit three 3-pointers while Gaby Quezada (9 points) and Brooklyn Patrick (6 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, block) also had significant contributions to the Vikings’ win.
Willapa Valley shot 34% on 17-of-51 shooting and hit 13 of 19 free throws as a team (68%).
Taholah shot 21% as a team on 13-of-62 shooting and went 3 of 8 from the free-throw line (37.5%).

Willapa Valley got off to a hot start and never looked back in a 69-41 win over Firm Foundation Christian on Thursday in Battle Ground.
The Vikings (12-4, 8-0 1B Columbia Valley) led 29-11 after the first quarter and outscored the Eagles (2-8, 2-6) 15-9 in the second frame to take a comfortable 24-point lead into halftime.
The Vikings were led by senior guard Riley Pearson, who scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting (69%) in the game.
Seniors Wil Clements (13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) and Derek Fluke (13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) also scored in double figures for Willapa Valley and freshman Brody Ritzman had four points and led the Vikings with nine rebounds.
