Celebrity fundraiser hoops game to benefit GH Special Olympics
The Grays Harbor Hawks celebrity basketball game and fundraiser will be held at noon on Friday, March 11 at Aberdeen High School with proceeds benefitting the Grays Harbor Special Olympics.
Celebrities participating in the event include former Seattle Seahawks Lofa Tatupu and Norm Johnson, former Washington Husky Mario Bailey and former Texas Rangers pitcher Gerald Smiley.
A silent auction, halftime auction and raffle are also planned for the event, which is presented by Five Star Dealerships.
General admission is $5 with VIP tickets costing $25 and are available at the door on the day of the event.
Dublanko named Brahmas captain
Former Aberdeen High School and University of Cinncinatti linebacker Joel Dublanko was named as one of the team captains for the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas, the team announced on Tuesday.
Dublanko, who played at Aberdeen from 2012-15, earned a spot on the Brahmas after competing for a spot on an NFL roster this past season with the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks.
Bighill named to CWU Hall of Fame
Former Montesano football standout and current Winnepeg Blue Bomber linebacker Adam Bighill was named to the Central Washington University 2023 Hall of Fame Class on Monday.
Bighill will be one of three entries inducted to the school’s 40th HoF class on Saturday, May 6, joining the Wildcats’ 1989 football team and women’s basketball player Kristin Willis in the honor.
“It is exciting to announce another outstanding class for the CWU Athletics Hall of Fame,” CWU Director of Athletics Dr. Dennis Francois said.
Bighill graduated from Montesano in 2007 after receiving all-state honors as both a running back and linebacker.
At CWU, Bighill received multiple honors in his four seasons, including GNAC co-Defensive Player of the Year and AFCA First Team All-American in 2010.
