In cooperation with Greater Grays Harbor Inc., Channel Point Village in Hoquiam held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil its newly remodeled memory care facility on Thursday, March 23. The wing is designed to accommodate individuals diagnosed with dementia who need around-the-clock care.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured a small crowd of a little more than 10 people, a variety of finger food snacks, and personal tours of the updated wing by facility staff who talked about how the area will best help its patients.

“If you look around the facility, most of the designs on the walls emulate Grays Harbor to its core such as fishing and logging. For most of our patients who will use our memory care units, stuff like this will help them feel more comfortable in their living space,” said Jen Pretty, who serves as vice president of operations for Channel Point Village. “We basically tore this wing down to the studs and built it in the way that will best help our patients.”

According to Pretty, the new wing can accommodate up to 19 patients, who can reside in a private suite, private courtyard suite or a shared friendship suite, all of which have their own unique features. The memory care facility provides a plethora of all-inclusive services such as a high staff-to-resident ratio, scheduled transportation, 24-hour certified staff, as well as social and recreational activities among other services.

“While dementia is generally the result of a debilitating disease, it does not define the person, nor limit their individuality,” said Pretty.

Although all patients must have a medical diagnosis of dementia to be permitted to live in the remodeled memory care facility, handouts that were given at the ribbon cutting show the monthly cost of the units ranging from $2,995 to $3,325. Each unit is equipped with a twin-size bed, personal bathroom, TV, kitchen counter, television, plants and an emergency pull cord.
