Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 3, Forks 1
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley maybe young after graduating the bulk of last season’s state-championship team, but the Titans remain on top of the 2B Pacific League regardless.
Some timely hitting and a lock down pitching performance from Lauren Emery, the Titans (14-5, 10-2 2B Pacific) defeated Forks 3-1 to win the league title on Friday in Montesano.
Emery allowed a run in the bottom of the second inning en route to the complete-game victory, scattering four hits without a walk while striking out 13 Spartans.
Trailing by a run in the top of the fourth, PWV’s Kylee Lyons drove in Sophia Milanowski with a two-out base hit in to tie the game.
The Titans threatened again when CJ Sipp and Lauren Matlock each singled to lead off the fifth.
A Forks error on a Jillian Hodel ground out led to Sipp and Matlock crossing the plate for a 3-0 lead.
After retiring six straight batters through the fifth and sixth innings, Emery ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh with two on and two out and the winning run at the plate in the form of Kaidence Ribgy.
But Emery got Rigby to ground out to Sipp at short, securing the league crown for the Titans.
Sipp had two hits to lead the Titans.
PWV will enter the 2B District 4 Tournament on Wednesday as the Pacific League’s No. 1 seed.
