Live tunes blast through Grays Harbor this weekend

More music is happening starting tonight throughout Grays Harbor County, which should quench the thirst for people looking for some entertainment this late spring season.

The weekend weather is forecast to be precipitation free, making for enjoyable nights ahead — with highs in the high 60s and lows in the 50s, according to National Weather Service’s site at Bowerman Airport.

Up first are the rock bands Hero, The Bad and the Ugly, and Pajammin’ Band, who play at 6 p.m. tonight at The Loading Dock — 202 E. Wishkah St., in Aberdeen. There is a $10 entry for the venue, but no age restriction.

According to Clinton “Dogger” Mullins, a rock guitarist from Aberdeen, The Bad and the Ugly — a rockabilly band — is “amazing.”

“A standup bass player fronts the band,” Mullins said. “High energy guitar. Shawn, the lead singer, sings covers by The Misfits and more. The Pajammin’ Band is a cover band playing 90s rock songs, I believe.”

Mullins is planning on hosting Open Mic Night from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Cave — 823 W. First St., in Aberdeen. Mullins just recently finished his new album at Seattle’s London Bridge Studio. Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone and other bands, recorded music there as well.

Mullins will play one of the songs “You’re enough,” from his new album. The 4:15-minute-long track sounds a little bit grungy with an early 2000s sound, which makes sense given Mullins’ “love” of grunge music. Think of the band Staind, which was a big influence for Mullins when he was growing up.

Mullins said “You’re enough,” is “meant to be a positive song about learning self-love.”

In addition to that song, he’ll play other originals and cover songs.

Mullins, who owns a merchandise shop called Grunge Harbor in Montesano, said he also played in the band Screaming Sons. That band also featured Aaron Burckhard, Nirvana’s original drummer. Mullins played with them from 2011-2013.

Grunge Harbor runs online for now with its address: P.O. Box 867, Montesano, Washington 98563. Mullins hopes to open a physical location in Montesano soon. Call Mullins at 360-359-2570, or email grungeharbor@gmail.com for more information.

For a night of violin tonight, go to Elma Church — 1246 Monte Elma Road — to hear Jaime Jorge play at 7 p.m. Admission is free and it’s an all ages show, according to Jorge’s website. For more information, call the church at 360-861-8204.

Then on Friday, Grays Harbor Banjo Band will make an appearance at 7:30 p.m., at the McCleary Museum & Event Center — 426 S. 3rd St. While the show is free, the seating is limited. According to the McCleary Historical Society (MHS), who’s sponsoring the event, the band is made up of 15 members, and they are “not just banjos.” While there is no admission, donations are appreciated so MHS “can continue to bring programming to McCleary.” For further information, call the museum at 360-964-0561.

Friday also brings the music scene back to Aberdeen, with an energetic hip-hop group named ETERNAL of Wu-Tang Killa Beez, with special guests Alan Wayne The Pradagy, Stone Roxx, Mr. Imperfect, Don Tee, Chemdogg7, Chubby Slims, and DJ Jaxs, according to ETERNAL’s Facebook page. The music starts at 6:30 p.m., and the artists will play at the New Parkway Tavern — 417 N. Park St. Admission is $15 and you must be 21 to enter.

On Saturday, singer-songwriter Amanda Ransom and Graysen Foust take the stage at Mount Olympus Brewing (MOB) — 105 W. Heron St, in Aberdeen. Their show goes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ransom is well-known on the Harbor and played to a happy, dancing crowd at Aberdeen’s Summerfest 2022. Ransom also played at Winterfest 2022. Katie Gonsalves, manager at MOB, is “excited to have Ransom and Foust play on Saturday.

“Her musical talents continue to amaze us and our customers and we feel privileged to have been able to watch her musical career continue to flourish!” Gonsalves said.

While Gonsalves hasn’t yet heard Ransom and Foust play together, she has no doubts about the quality of their sound.

“I’m sure they are nothing short of amazing!” Gonsalves said.

Ocean Shores’ Shilo Beach Approach will also join in on the music fun this weekend. On Saturday, Johnny “the Capo” & the Bad Boys & Friends will play at 5 p.m. The performance caps off Ocean Shores Beach Clean 2023. According to the Ocean Shores Beach Clean 2023 flyer, look for the Jeeps because there are supposed to be about 500 of them parked on the sand at Chance a La Mer Beach. Johnny “the Capo” & The Bad Boys recently played at Celebrate Summer Jam at Ocean Shores Convention Center.
