Peter Gilovich Jr.

Lifetime Aberdeen resident, Peter Gilovich Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Peter was born on June 1, 1925, to Eva (Dropulich) and Peter Gilovich Sr. in Aberdeen, Washington.

Peter married the love of his life, Valerie Mataja on Feb. 25, 1961 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Aberdeen, Washington. Throughout his long working career, Peter spent over 30 years with the Saginaw Mill in Aberdeen and another 12 at Mayr Bros. in Hoquiam. During this time he continued to work as a dedicated commercial fisherman in Grays Harbor as well as in Bristol Bay, Alaska, a vocation he truly loved and was proud of.

An important part of his family heritage was his Croatian descent. Peter was an active member of the local Zrinski Frankopan Croatian Lodge for over 60 years. He was a devout Catholic who was a member of both St. Peter and Paul and St. Mary’s Catholic churches in Aberdeen.

In retirement, Peter and Valerie enjoyed spending time with their granddaughters, gardening, and enjoying sports (especially the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks). Peter joyously served over 15 years as a volunteer for the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Feed the Hungry program which he felt deeply for.

Peter is preceded in death by his parents Eva and Peter Sr.; son Michael; brothers John Gilovich and Tony Gilovich and sister Katherine Mitrovich. He is survived by his wife Valerie Gilovich who resides at the family home in Cosmopolis, daughter Diane and son-in-law Dylan Trivison of Olympia; granddaughters Lauren and Emily Trivison both of Spokane, and sister-in-law Bonnie Gilovich of Aberdeen.

Pete was a man of integrity, loving sacrifice and service who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen, Washington on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., preceded by Rosary at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Feed the Hungry program at 306 E 3rd St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.
