Clyde E. White, age 91, a longtime resident of the Wishkah Valley, died on July 19, 2023, at Riverside Place in Hoquiam. Mr. White was born on July 15, 1932, in Decorah, Iowa to August T. and Ragna R. (Helgeson) White. As a child, he came with the family where they lived in Hoquiam, then later permanently settled in the Wishkah Valley.
Clyde attended Wishkah Valley High School until enlisting in the US Marine Corp, serving in Korea. He was discharged with a Purple Heart and returned to the Wishkah Valley where he completed high school in 1952. On Oct. 27, 1953, he and Katherine Porter McGuire were married.
At one time, Clyde had been partners in a local dairy, then worked at a local feed store, for Darigold, then at his favorite job for the Wishkah School District in maintenance, 1984 until retiring in 1998.
Surviving relatives include three children, Brenda Summit, Marlin (Cindy) White and Dennis (Carol) White; a daughter-in-law, Kathy McGuire; a sister, Leanne Arnold; 8 grandchildren, Kim Tedford, Aaron Summit, Shelly Summit, Mary Brown, Nicole McGuire, Brandie Kolodzie, Kasie Greene and Kellie Perron; 18 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Katherine White; three brothers and a sister, Albie McGuire, Ted White, John White and Gloria Duncan died previously.
An urn committal service with military honors will be held at 12 noon on Aug. 26, 2023, at St. John’s Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at the Wishkah Community Church.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Wishkah Fire Department.
