Karl Richard Johnson left his family peacefully on Aug. 24, 2023, after his battle with cancer. Karl was born on Sept. 5, 1941, to Elmer and Florence Johnson in Aberdeen, Washington. Karl had lived in Aberdeen all of his life and graduated from Weatherwax (Aberdeen) High School in 1959.
On Nov. 17, 1962, Karl married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Missel, at St. Mary’s Church. They were married for 61 years. Karl worked for I.T.T Rayonier/ Grays Harbor Paper for 47 years altogether and retired in September of 2006. Karl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and making wooden sports team signs for his friends and family. He loved playing the piano and had a band “Karl J. and The Americans.”
Karl was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Florence Johnson and brother John Johnson. Karl is survived by his wife Mary Ann Johnson who resides at the family home; son Kevin Johnson of Cosmopolis, Washington; daughter Carmen (Dave) Riffe of Hoquiam, Washington; four grandchildren: Ashley (Steve) Riffe of Elma, Washington; Matt Riffe of Hoquiam, Washington; Breanne Johnson of Cosmopolis, Washington; and Chase (Sophie) Johnson of McCleary, Washington; and great-grandchildren Sawyer Heywood and Tate Johnson.
The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. At this time per Karl’s request, there will be no services.
