GHC’s Tamker four shots back after first day of season-opening meet
Grays Harbor College golfer Rasmus Tamker is just four shots back of the leader after a soggy first day at the Grays Harbor College-Pacific Lutheran University Collegiate Open on Monday at The Home Course in DuPont.
Tamker, a first-year GHC player who hails from Sweden, shot a 74 to tie for 10th place, four shots behind Whitman College’s Trey Kimmetiu, who sits in first place with Tuesday’s round still to play.
GHC’s Brett Wasson shot a 78 for his 18-hole round followed by fellow Chokers teammate Hayden Hayes with an 80.
The Chokers are without top golfer Cole Wasson, who is injured with a broken wrist, leaving the Chokers one golf short to qualify in the team standings.
The invitational attracted a total of 23 teams from 21 colleges and universities for a combined men’s and women’s field of 110 golfers.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
Ocosta 3, Toledo 0
Ocosta defeated Toledo in straight sets on Monday in Westport.
The Wildcats (5-2 overall) won by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-21.
Ocosta setter Brynn Rasmus had 26 assists, dishing out scoring opportunities to hitters Alexia Bradley (11 kills, 6 solo blocks) and Samantha Schlegel (10 kills, 11 digs), each of whom recorded double-digit kills in the game.
The Wildcats would need every bit of that offense as they were under 80% from the service line as a team.
“We passed well, played solid defense and attacked well,” said Ocosta head coach Erin Snider, who added Schlegel “played a fantastic all-around game this evening.”
Ocosta plays against Ilwaco at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Ilwaco.

Ocosta 8, Winlock 0
Ocosta had no problems with accuracy in an 8-0 victory over Winlock on Monday at Winlock High School.
The Wildcats (4-3) got six goals from eighth-grade forward Bristol Towle, who needed just 12 minutes to score three goals and record an assist.
Ocosta also got goals from Kylee Denny and Penny Park, each of whom assisted on Towle goals in the second half.
Scarlett Nelson had two assists in the game, including a feed to Towle for a goal just 40 seconds into the first half.
“We were able to move people around and completed more passes than any other game this year,” Ocosta head coach Mike King said. “Last year, we didn’t have a single shutout and this was our third one. I was happy with our effort in the rain.”
King cited the performances of Kennedy Reynolds, Joanah Rosander, Gabby Ness and Marlee Cobain on defense. The Wildcats head coach also complimented Brizeyda Ayala Rios and Nelson for their all-around play.
Ocosta goal keepers Amelia Saunders and Hollys Baldwin combined for the clean sheet, with Baldwin saving the only Winlock shot in the game.
Ocosta hosts Ilwaco in a league game at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Westport.
