League games were on the schedule for several Twin Harbors teams, including Hoquiam and Elma renewing their 1A Evergreen rivalry.

Hoquiam 3, Elma 0

In a league opener for both teams, Hoquiam defeated Elma in straight sets on Tuesday at Hoquiam Square Garden.

Hoquiam (4-3 overall, 1-0 1A Evergreen) got off to a fast start en route to a 25-18, 25-11 and 25-17 victory.

Senior outside hitter Faith Prosch led the Grizzlies with 15 kills on 25 attempts and just one hitting error.

Hoquiam junior defensive specialist Avery Templer was perfect from the service line, going 29-for-29 with eight aces, including a long 18 point-service streak in the second set.

Senior middle blocker Kristina Goulet (8 kills), sophomore libero Lexi LaBounty (14 digs), senior outside hitter Leighann Bratt (13 digs) and junior setter Katlyn Brodhead (26 assists) also contributed to the Hoquiam sweep.

“I was really proud of the way we attacked the ball offensively tonight,” Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich said. “We are still navigating our way through a complete match without let downs, but it’s getting better set by set and I really like where we are as a team right now.”

Hoquiam hosts North Beach in a non-league match at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Elma (1-6, 0-1) faces Tenino in a league match scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Tenino High School.

Montesano 3, Tenino 1

Montesano picked up a key league win with a 3-1 victory over Tenino on Tuesday at Montesano High School.

The Bulldogs (2-6, 1-0 1A Evergreen) beat the Beavers (4-4, 0-1) 25-22, 25-12, 25-27 and 25-19 despite not playing at the same level they did in a 3-2 loss to Castle Rock on Friday, according to head coach Cindy Wecker.

“It was pretty ugly tonight,” she said. “We played tremendous against Castle Rock. … The hope was we were going to come out tonight and play like that, play with energy. We were going to talk and do all the things everybody loved about that match, and we just didn’t. It was too quiet, our passing was off a little bit, we missed a couple of serves. … Something was just off and it was a little bit frustrating. Yes, we got the win, but we did not play near as good as we can.”

After winning the first two games, Montesano fell behind early in the third set and battled back to tie the game at 17 before falling behind 24-21 and facing game point.

After a timeout, Montesano rallied to stave off game point, tying the set at 24-24.

“At some point, I called a timeout and gave them a little chewin’ to try to light a fire under them,” Wecker said. “That’s not what I want to do, but sometimes it helps.”

Monte went on to lose the set in extra points 27-25, but carried the momentum into Game 4, taking an early 6-1 lead en route to a 25-19 win.

“I’m happy we got the win, but we still have a lot to work on,” Wecker said. “We’re getting there. Tonight was just a lull.”

Junior middle blocker Kylee Wisdom led the way with 24 kills as an intimidating presence at the front of the net.

Setter Karissa Otterstetter had 40 assists, went 28-for-29 in service with four aces with Liv Robinson going 17-of-19 from the service line with 16 digs for Monte.

The Bulldogs host Eatonville at 7 p.m. on Thursday in a 1A Evergreen League game.

Raymond-South Bend 3, North Beach 0

Raymond-South Bend earned another league win with a straight-set victory over North Beach on Tuesday in Ocean Shores.

RSB (6-2, 5-0 2B Pacific) won 25-12, 25-14 and 25-16, recording 14 aces as a team in the process.

“We served well tonight. … That aspect of our game gave us a lift and kept us in the driver’s seat all night long,” Ravens head coach Julie Jewell said. “North Beach is a scrappy team and kept a lot of balls alive. Momentum was on our side.”

Junior setter Berklee Morley dished out 22 assists, with sophomore Ava Baugher recording a team-high 10 kills and five blocks.

The Ravens play at Napavine at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

North Beach (3-4, 1-4) plays at Hoquiam at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Ocosta defeated Ilwaco in straight sets in a 2B Pacific League game on Tuesday in Ilwaco.

The Wildcats (5-2, 3-1 2B Pacific) won 25-8, 25-21 and 25-10 using a consistent passing game, which helped Ocosta push through some serve-reception troubles in the second set against winless Ilwaco (0-7, 0-4).

Middle blocker Alexia Bradley recorded a game-high 16 kills with four solo blocks.

Millie Tucker served at a 100% clip while Wildcats teammate Samantha Schlegel was perfect in serve-receive to go along with six kills.

Anna Davis was credited with “great back-row play tonight and near-perfect serve receive,” according to Ocosta head coach Erin Snider.

The Wildcats host Forks at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
