Montesano claims four of five top honors on all-league football list

Bodwell named League MVP; Monte’s Damasiewicz, Taylor and Elma’s Studer also earn top awards

To the victors go the spoils.

For the league-champion Montesano Bulldogs, that meant a near sweep of the top awards as the 1A Evergreen League announced its all-league honors earlier this week.

Monte won four of the league’s top five awards, with senior running back Gabe Bodwell claiming the League Most Valuable Player award after rushing for 1,162 yards and 18 touchdowns on 136 attempts this season, an average of 8.54 yards per carry.

Bodwell was joined by senior teammates Cam Taylor and Peyton Damasiewicz, each of whom claimed one of the league’s top honors.

Damasiewicz was named the Defensive MVP after a season in which the linebacker recorded 60 tackles and team-highs in fumble recoveries (3) and sacks (6).

Taylor was named the league’s Lineman of the Year after recording 37 tackles and four sacks for the undefeated Bulldogs.

Elma senior quarterback Carter Studer was named the league’s Offensive MVP after passing for 1,508 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging 188.5 passing yards per game this season.
