Ocosta edges North Beach in the final minute as we review Friday’s prep basketball action in the Twin Harbors.

Ocosta 47, North Beach 46
It took the full 32 minutes to decide the outcome of Ocosta’s 47-46 win over North Beach on Friday in Westport.
The Wildcats (2-4 overall, 1-3 2B Pacific) and Hyaks (0-4, 0-2) traded buckets for much of the first half.
Ocosta’s Tarren Lewis had 10 points before foul trouble had him on the bench for most of the second quarter while North Beach’s Jeremiah Eastman scored 11 points – including three 3-pointers – to pace the Hyaks early on.
Tied at 25 going into the second half, the Hyaks made a run to take a seven-point lead before an Ocosta run cut the North Beach lead to 35-33 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth, Ocosta’s Kayden Turner hit a three to put the Wildcats up by four.
With under a minute to go and Ocosta holding a slim lead, North Beach’s Tyrrell Curry was fouled and hit 1-of-2 free throws to cut the deficit to 47-46 with 11 seconds left.
After the Hyaks fouled on the following two inbound plays, Ocosta’s Noah Prigmore collected an inbounds pass and streaked to the basket, but missed a layup.
North Beach grabbed the rebound, but a last-second 25-foot heave hit the front rim at the buzzer, giving the Wildcats the nail-biting victory.
“Tonight was another typical North Beach-Ocosta dogfight with the game coming down to a last-second missed three from North Beach that has the whole crowd holding their breath,” said Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby, who lamented his team’s 22 turnovers in the game. “Overall, we had some moments of really poor basketball but really started to find a rhythm in the last five minutes of the game.”
Junior guard Jade Charley led North Beach with 19 points followed by Eastman with 11.
Ocosta was led by Lewis with 16 while Agramon and freshman Michael Priest scored 10 each for the Wildcats.
Lewis added eight rebounds and five steals to his stat line.
North Beach is set to host Chief Leschi at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Ocosta – which snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory – hosts Willapa Valley at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Ilwaco 69, Raymond 43
Raymond couldn’t keep pace with Ilwaco in a 69-43 loss on Friday in Ilwaco.
The Seagulls (1-2, 1-1 2B Pacific) trailed by 16 at the half and were outscored in every quarter against the Fishermen (4-2, 2-0).
“The final score isn’t a good indicator of how this game went,” Raymond head coach Mike Tully said. “We had a few stretches where we allowed Ilwaco to make six or eight point runs off of turnovers or defensive breakdowns, but for the most part we played well defensively.”
Chris Quintana led Raymond with nine points and four rebounds while Talan Yearout “had is best game of the year so far,” according to Tully, with eight points and nine rebounds.
Raymond senior Austin Snodgrass was credited with a fine defensive performance by holding reigning league MVP Beckett Turner to just eight points in the game.
“Each game we’re showing a little progress,” Tully said. “We have quite a few guys that are getting their first taste of significant varsity minutes, so it’s going to be a learning process.”

Lake Roosevelt 66, Hoquiam 53
Hoquiam saw a slim first-half lead slip away in a 66-53 loss to Lake Roosevelt on Friday at the Native American Classic at Wenatchee College.
The Grizzlies (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season as Lake Roosevelt (2-0) went on a run up by four with four minutes left in the game to secure the victory.
Hoquiam took a 27-26 lead at halftime thanks in large part to three 3-pointers from Grizzly guard Joey Bozich in the first half.
“We really had a good first half. Our whole goal was that this was probably the best running team we’ll run into this year,” Hoquiam head coach Jeff Niemi said.”We just wanted to stay in front of them and hold them down and we did a good enough job to where we were up one at the half. … We were feeling pretty good about ourselves.”
In the second half, Lake Roosevelt’s press defense and run-and-gun offense began to take its toll on the Grizzlies as the Raiders pulled away down the stretch of the fourth quarter.
“The plan at halftime was to cut down on turnovers and just stay in the game, unfortunately, the story of the game was we had 28 turnovers,” Niemi said. “”They do a great job of pressing. You can try to prepare the kids for that tempo as best you can, but if you’ve never seen it, you’re not ready for it.”
Niemi added he liked what he saw of his team’s defense, which held the Raiders to 4-for-22 from the 3-point line (18%) and held a 34-26 rebounding advantage.
“I was really impressed with our defense. Lake Roosevelt is maybe the best 2B team in the state and it was a game for 28 minutes,” he said. “While we would’ve loved the win, I definitely think this game will help us.”
Bozich led the Grizzlies with 15 points while senior Zander Jump had 12 points to go along with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL
Aberdeen 78, Centralia 53
Aberdeen picked up its first league victory of the season with a 78-53 victory over Centralia on Friday at Centralia High School.
The Bobcats (4-1, 1-1 2A Evergreen) earned the win on the back of its press defense, which led to a 20-7 first-quarter lead and extended a 12-point halftime advantage to 25 after a big third quarter.
Aberdeen outscored the Tigers (0-4, 0-1) 27-14 in the third period.
Aberdeen freshman guard Bentley Brown hit three 3-pointers while senior guard Annie Troeh scored 13 of her game-high 23 points in the quarter.
“Our pressure defense in the first and third quarters was pretty evident. We got a lot of transition baskets,” Bobcats head coach Curtis Eccles said.
Brown had 16 points while senior Zoeh Troeh had 11 points, six steals and six rebounds for the Bobcats.
Senior forward Jaylynn Phimmasone had six points and a team-best eight rebounds for Aberdeen.
The Aberdeen junior varsity team won 57-9 over Centralia JV, with freshman guard Sawyer Shoemaker scoring 20 points for the Bobcats.
Aberdeen hosts Tumwater for a key league matchup at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Taholah 50, Hoquiam 15
Taholah blew out Hoquiam 50-15 on Friday at Taholah High School.
The Chitwhins (2-0) held the Grizzlies (2-3) scoreless in the second quarter and had a 28-8 scoring advantage in the second half to earn the victory.
”All credit goes to Taholah tonight. They dominated us in every aspect of the game,” Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan said. “Taholah has all the pieces to make deep runs in the post season if they continue to improve. They have done an amazing job out there investing in their youth programs and it is paying off.”
Allan added his team, which trailed 21-7 at the half and didn’t score more than seven points in any quarter, struggled to execute on Friday.
”As the saying goes, ‘You get what you have earned, and if you don’t execute, you will be executed.’ We fit into all of this,” he said. “(Hoquiam’s) Katelyn Brodhead brought as much energy as she could and Lexi LaBounty had flashes of defensive disruption, but as a team we just could not gain any traction. We are still learning how to compete at a varsity level.”
Hoquiam hosts Black Hills in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Black Hills 46, Elma 27
Elma trailed early and never caught up to Black Hills in a 46-27 loss on Friday in Tumwater.
The Eagles (0-3) trailed 16-3 after Black Hills hit 8-of-16 shots in the first quarter (50%) and were out of it by halftime after managing just three points of offense in the second quarter.
Elma shot just 2-of-21 (9.5%) in the first half, leading to a 27-6 halftime deficit.
Eliza Sibbett had nine points to lead Elma, which shot 10-of-45 from the floor (22%) and 5-of-19 from the free-throw line (26%).
Elma is scheduled to play Raymond at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21 at Elma High School.
