Tumwater 57, Aberdeen 40

A big second quarter by Tumwater led to a 57-40 loss for Aberdeen on Tuesday in Aberdeen.

The Bobcats (4-2 overall, 1-2 2A Evergreen) fell behind by 17 at halftime after the Thunderbirds (4-0, 3-0) scored 24 points in the second quarter on 11-of-21 shooting in the frame (52%).

“It was that second quarter that was the difference. It really came down to them hitting their shots,” Aberdeen head coach Curtis Eccles said. “They are quick and had some quickness we hadn’t seen. I thought we did a good job trying to match their quickness, but in that second quarter, they started hitting some shots.”

Another key factor in the loss was the Bobcats committing 25 turnovers on what Eccles said was mostly due to “making poor decisions.”

Aberdeen had 12 steals as a team and shot 15-of-42 from the field in the game (36%).

The Bobcats were led by senior Annie Troeh, who had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five steals in the game.

Aberdeen hosts Rochester at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The Vikings (5-1) and Chitwhins (2-1) were tied at 30-30 with 5:38 left in the game before Valley went on a 9-0 run to secure the victory.

“We finally played a great first half. We came out and played really well,” said Valley head coach Dawn Keeton, whose team had to rally after Taholah played much better in the second half. “After halftime, we came out and played a little scared because Taholah came out aggressive and we weren’t ready for that. They were very physical with us, but we were able to hold on.”

Addison Merkel (14 points), Tyler Keeton (11) and Rilyn Channell (10) each scored in double figures for the Vikings, which shot 15-0f-48 as a team (31%).

Four Ravens players scored in double figures while the RSB defense held the Warriors to less than 10 points in each quarter.

“Defensively we were able to set the tone and slowly pull away for a good win on the road,” Ravens head coach Jason Koski said. “Really good play from all the kids, very unselfish on the offensive end and pretty disciplined for the most part on the defensive end versus Leschi’s back door and dribble-handoff actions.”
