How Does Mindbloom Work?
Mindbloom works by delivering at-home, guided ketamine therapy.
You sign up for Mindbloom’s ketamine therapy, and the company sends you tablets that dissolve under the tongue and take effect in 10 to 15 minutes.
While taking Mindbloom’s ketamine, you complete guided therapy. You put on headphones, then listen to a curated soundtrack specifically designed to accompany your therapy session.
According to Mindbloom.com, ketamine is “a transformational medicine of the mind” that can “lift the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other conditions” – often within just one to two hours.
The FDA approved ketamine in 1970 as an anesthetic and analgesic. It’s also used off-label for mental health conditions.
When taken at low doses, ketamine can help with negative feelings and help the brain create healthier patterns. It can help with anxiety and depression, for example, while also fuelling neural growth.
Mindbloom cites ample scientific evidence supporting these advertised effects at its official website, including specific evidence connecting ketamine to stress relief, anxiety relief, and other benefits.

What to Expect with Mindbloom
Mindbloom makes it easy to experience the benefits of ketamine therapy from the comfort of home.
Here’s how it works when signing up for Mindbloom for the first time:
Step1) Meet with your clinician. All Mindbloom clients are paired with a licensed Mindbloom clinician. That clinician reviews your health history to ensure ketamine therapy is right for you. If you’re not a fit, then you receive a full refund. Mindbloom is available to adults over age 18 in 35 out of 50 US states.
Step 2) Receive your Bloombox starter kit. If a clinician approves you for ketamine therapy, then you receive your Bloombox in the mail. Mindbloom delivers your Bloombox starter kit to your door, and that Bloombox has everything you need to begin therapy. You get ketamine, a journal, a blood pressure monitor, and other tools to track your progress and safely perform ketamine therapy from the comfort of home.
Step 3) Talk to your guide. Mindbloom pairs you with an experienced guide who will help safely and confidently administer your medicine. All guides are specially trained in ketamine therapy and have helped facilitate 300,000+ sessions.
Step 4) Complete your first session. After you prepare your space at home, you begin ketamine treatment by placing the ketamine tablet under your tongue. Your body rapidly absorbs the sublingual tablet, helping you feel effects in 10 to 15 minutes. The effects of the medicine last for around 1 hour. You spend this time relaxing on a sofa or bed with an eye mask on.
After your first session, you choose a personalized pathway to achieve the results you want. Mindbloom has different pathways like:
- Learning to love yourself
- Managing emotions
- Beyond depression
- Navigating grief
- And many more personalized pathways based on your targeted effects

What is Ketamine?
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic.
In high doses, ketamine will knock you out. It was approved by the FDA in 1970 as an anesthetic and analgesic, which means it knocks you out and reduces the sensation of pain. That’s one reason ketamine is used in surgeries.
Slightly lower doses of ketamine, however, can produce psychedelic or hallucinogenic effects. If you take slightly less than the amount of ketamine needed to knock you out, you might experience hallucinogenic effects or other psychedelic properties.
At even lower doses, however, ketamine has “psycholytic,” effects, which means it can help you feel calm and relaxed. That’s the dose that Mindbloom and other ketamine companies aim to provide.
How Does Ketamine Work?
Today, studies have connected low doses of ketamine to relief from anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction issues, and other mental health concerns.
Some believe ketamine helps with neuroplasticity, while others believe ketamine interacts with neurotransmitters in the brain.
Ketamine has been shown to improve neuroplasticity, or physical changes to your brain that lead to corresponding mental changes. When taking ketamine, you experience changes that could help with certain disorders and conditions.
Ketamine also appears to interact with neurotransmitters. Ketamine helps with neurotransmitters, or brain chemical messengers, like glutamate and GABA. Glutamate and GABA are involved in hundreds of processes throughout the brain linked to cognitive energy, serotonin production, dopamine, and more.

Scientific Evidence for Mindbloom
The official Mindbloom website has 27+ pages of scientific evidence validating the company’s ketamine therapy and the benefits of ketamine overall. We’ll review some of that evidence below.
One of the most important studies on Mindbloom was published in 2024. Researchers tested Mindbloom’s at-home ketamine therapy and found it led to a significant improvement in symptoms. Specifically, researchers found ketamine therapy was a safe, effective treatment for anxiety and depression and that 62% fewer patients reported suicidal ideation after four sessions.
Ketamine has been shown to help with substance use disorders and the mental health issues associated with those disorders. In a 2024 review, for example, researchers found ketamine was backed by ample evidence connecting it to antidepressant and anti-suicidal effects while also helping with depression, bipolar disorders, suicidal ideation, and other mental health disorders.
Mindbloom Magic: Explore Guided Ketamine Therapy!
A similar study found intravenous ketamine could help with suicidal ideation, reducing the risk of experiencing symptoms. Researchers tested ketamine on a group of patients who had previously expressed suicidal ideation and found “ketamine rapidly reduced suicidal thoughts, within 1 day and for up to 1 week in depressed patients with suicidal ideation.”
Some studies have specifically backed the use of at-home ketamine therapy. One recent study showed at-home, sublingual ketamine telehealth was a “safe and effective treatment for moderate to severe anxiety and depression.” 1,247 participants received care in a similar setup to how Mindbloom provides service, offering ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT) with psychosocial support and remote monitoring. Researchers found those completing KAT “indicated rapid and significant antidepressant and anxiolytic effects” similar to those observed with in-person, clinical ketamine treatment.
A similar study found ketamine was safe and effective for helping with anxiety and social anxiety disorders. A group of 20 participants took a 1mg/kg dose of ketamine injected under the skin for 3 months. Participants experienced a significant improvement in functionality and in their personality levels, suggesting ketamine could be an alternative therapy for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and social anxiety disorder (SAD).
Ketamine could help with OCD. In fact, one 2024 study found ketamine created a “rapid improvement in OCD.” Researchers believe ketamine works as a potent NMDA receptor antagonist, helping to rapidly relieve symptoms of OCD within hours.
Ketamine could also help with autism. The Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati sponsored a study showed intranasal ketamine helped individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Researchers tested ketamine on a group of 24 individuals between ages 12 and 30 with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and found treatment was safe, tolerable, and effective.
Ketamine’s antidepressant effects could be more powerful than electroconvulsive therapy and similar alternative treatments. A 2014 study, for example, analyzed ketamine versus electroconvulsive therapy and found ketamine was “as effective as ECT in improving depressive symptoms” in patients with major depression.
Overall, Mindbloom and its ketamine therapy are backed by ample scientific evidence showing they can help with specific conditions, general anxiety issues, and other problems.
