Patricia Ann (Grandy) Wingert, 76, of Hoquiam, Washington, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on Jan. 1, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Pat was born June 26, 1947, in Watsonville, California, to Donald Arthur Grandy and Corrine (Reasons) Grandy.

Pat met the love of her life, Richard Wingert, in 1961, in Richfield, California when she was in the 8th grade. Their engagement was announced on July 16, 1966, and the two were married on Dec. 10 of that year, in Corning, California. They were married for 57 years and have been a true inspiration to family and friends. They had three boys, Richie, Kenny and Donnie who were born in California before moving to Grays Harbor in 1976.

Pat got involved with her boys at school and was later hired at Lincoln Elementary. Pat served in many capacities while involved with the school and in 2015, earned her place on the Hoquiam School Wall of Distinction. Pat’s warm and loving nature knew no bounds, leaving an unforgettable mark on the lives of the many children that passed through her life. Many still refer to her as the “Playground Lady”.

We grieve the loss of someone who carried the love of God for others and sought to bring joy everywhere she went. Pat had a strong faith and worshipped for many years at Light & Life Community Church. She enjoyed weekly bible studies where she could share her love for the Lord. Pat’s warm, generous and loving nature was evident in every aspect of her life. Her radiant smile could brighten the darkest days; her enveloping hugs offered solace and comfort to those around her.

She found joy in quilting, and there wasn’t a craft she hadn’t tried. Anyone who knew Pat knew she was an avid bargain hunter and die-hard shopper. She found great joy in gifting her finds. She developed a lifelong love of playing cards when she was about 8 years old, coming home from school to play a game of pinochle with her Mom, Dad and sister, Connie. As Pat built her life with Rich and the boys, every Saturday night was a gathering to play cards with family and a homecooked meal.

“Farewell, dear soul. May your journey as an angel in heaven be as extraordinary as the life you lived.”

She is preceded in death by her father Donald Arthur Grandy, her mother, Corrine (Reasons) Grandy, her brother Steven Donald Grandy, and her son, Richard Cory Wingert.

In addition to her loving husband, Richard Wingert, she is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Teresea Ruder) Wingert and Donald (Tamra) Wingert, her sisters Connie Parson, Marlene Stewart, and sister-in-law, Sandy Brady-Grandy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Others that have been considered family, Randy (Jen) Knokey, and Jason (Jeannie) Tole, 8 bonus grandchildren and lifelong friends who loved her so very much.

Pat’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Jan. 20, 2024, at the Light & Life Community Church, 2740 Simpson Avenue, Hoquiam, WA 98550, with a potluck immediately after the service.
