As St. Patrick’s Day descends upon the world once more in its green-tinted glory, an international celebration of Irish culture and heritage held on the day of the death of the eponymous saint, the Harbor prepares to honor it in fine style.

Music, refreshments and merriment, including parades in Hoquiam and Ocean Shores, will grace the streets as the weather warms and life returns to the forests and shores.

“It’s a way just to celebrate, family background, culture. A fun time! Sharing that with the population,” said Linda Gibbons, whose husband, Bill, has famously been a proponent of all things Gaelic in the county for decades. “It’s a way to share with everybody.”

Beginning on March 15, Gibbons’ Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub and the 8th Street Ale House will be hosting music. On Saturday, Ocean Shores will host its St. Patrick’s Day Parade, open to all.

“Saturday’s is in Ocean Shores at noon. It starts at the pub. It’s a short little loop,” Linda said. “The Grays Harbor Irish Club does put that one on. That’s probably been going for 20 years.”

On Sunday, at 3:17 in the afternoon, simultaneous parades will begin at the 8th Street Ale House and Hoquiam Brewing, who partner for the event, walking the .317 miles to the other establishment.

“There’s a group that starts from 8th Street. Bill is St. Patrick — he gets in his St. Patrick costume,” Linda said. “There’s another group that starts at the brewery.”

Music will go at all three venues throughout the weekend, with many bands that’ll be familiar to participants of the Celtic MusicFeis hosted by the Galway Bay, including Hank Cramer, Ockham’s Razor, Danny Boy and Curlew’s Call.
