Indians sweep Warriors
PUYALLUP — South Bend’s Drew Rose threw a five-inning no-hitter in the nightcap, his second of the season, to secure a Pacific 2B League doubleheader sweep of Chief Leschi on Tuesday night.
Rose struck out 14, walked five and wasn’t threatened in a 3-0 win that was called due to darkness following a three-hour first game.
In the opener, South Bend used two 10-run innings to outdistance Chief Leschi, 23-11.
Michael Oropeza had five hits, including a double, and three RBI in the opener for the Indians. Chase Flynn added three hits, including two doubles and three RBI, and Rose and Barret Houk added two hits, including a double and four RBI, each.
Flynn took over in relief of starter Luke King, who was hit with four runs in the second by the hosts, and picked up the win, striking out seven and walking five in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Rose didn’t give Chief Leschi much of a chance in the nightcap, leaving his defens with just one out to record for the no-hitter.
“Drew pitched a dominating performance,” South Bend head coach Jim Bleeker said. “(In the first game), situated around numerous walks and hit batters, we came through with some timely big hits to seal the deal. Oropeza and Flynn had a big night at the plate.”
On Saturday, South Bend (5-3, 5-3) travels to Life Christian Academy for a league doubleheader.
