GHC’s Tamker victorious at Highline league match

Grays Harbor College men’s golfer Rasmus Tamker led all competitors to place first at an Northwest Athletic Conference league match hosted by Highline College on Sunday and Monday at the Oakbrook Golf Course in Tacoma.

Tamker was the only player to finish under par in the adverse weather conditions, posting a first-round score of 73 followed by a 67 on Monday – the only sub-70 score of the competition – to shoot a 2-under 140.

Tamker’s score was five shots better than second-place Trey Lecheminant of Spokane and seven better than North Idaho’s Charlie Terwilliger in third.

Tamker had eight birdies over the 36-hole tournament.

“Rasmus has been a terrific addition to our team,” GHC head coach Ann Swanson said of the Stockholm, Sweden native. “So happy for him to achieve this as he has worked extremely hard.”

Grays Harbor’s Cole Wasson tied for 25th with a score of 159 (77-82, plus-17) with cousin Brett Wasson finishing in a tie for 29th with a total score of 161 (79-82, plus-19).

Grays Harbor was well on its way to a top-two team finish – its best of the season – until a signed incorrect scorecard led to the Chokers being disqualified from the team standings.

North Idaho won the team title with a score of 592, with Spokane (617), Skagit Valley (619) and Southwestern Oregon (619) rounding out the top four teams.

GHC will compete at the NWAC Championships May 19-20 at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.
