Several local prep track and field stars earned spots in this week’s state tournaments at their respective district meets.
1A DISTRICT 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Montesano girls win district title
The Montesano girls track and field team led the field at the 1A District 4 Championships on Thursday at Seton Catholic High School.
The Bulldogs were the only team to break the century mark with 102 points, beating second-place La Center by just under seven points.
Monte was led by senior Alayna Olson, who won a district title in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, five inches, a full two feet better than Stevenson’s Eva Battistoni, who placed second at 32-2.
Olson also qualified for the state meet in the long jump with a leap of 16-3.5 to place third overall.
Monte’s junior Sam Roundtree qualified in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles while Bulldogs Mikayla Stanfield (javelin, 2nd), Haley Schweppe (800, 2nd; 1600, 2nd) and Samantha Schweppe (3200, 2nd) also qualified for state.
The Bulldogs’ 4×400-meter relay team of Olson, Stanfield, Samantha and Haley Schweppe also qualified for state with a third-place finish.
Hoquiam was led by standout senior Jane Roloff, who claimed three district titles with wins in the 800, 1600 and 3200.
In the boys competition, Montesano placed second overall behind district-champion Seton Catholic.
The Bulldogs were led by junior Shaun Straka, who won a district title with a 46-11 personal-best throw in the shot put.
Monte senior Gabe Bodwell qualified for state in the javelin, high jump and discus and the Bulldogs 4×400-relay team of Peyton Damasiewicz, Jerrell Bayless, Mason Rasmussen and Jesse Anderson won the district title with a time of 3:29.21.
Elma freshman Ricardo Guadarrama had a big meet with wins in both the 100 and 200-meter races.
The WIAA 1B/2B/1A State Championship Meet is scheduled to begin on Thursday at Eisenhower High School in Yakima.

2A DISTRICT 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Aberdeen trio wins district titles
Aberdeen’s Tyler Bates, Henry Nelson and Ailyn Haggard won district championships at the 2A District 4 Championships on Friday at Tumwater High School.
Bates, a senior, won the district title in the boys discus with a mark of 174-05, setting a new personal-best for the former state champion and finishing nearly 17 feet better than second-place Anthony Sanchelli from Shelton.
Bates also took first with a personal-record throw of 195-07 at the Olympia Hammer Throw Series on Sunday at The Evergreen State College.
Nelson won the district championship in the 800 as the junior ran a personal-best 1:56.05, winning by more than two seconds.
In the girls competition, freshman Haggard won the 3200 with a time of 11:33.47, crossing the finish line more than 11 seconds ahead of Ridgefield’s Charlize Kellmer (11:44.55).
The 2A/3A/4A State Championship is set to begin on Thursday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.

2B DISTRICT 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Raymond, South Bend track standouts win district titles
A trio of Pacific County track and field standouts won titles at the 2B District 4 Championships on Friday at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.
Raymond’s Austin Snodgrass and Chris Banker along with South Bend’s Robby Stigall won individual district championships at the meet.
Snodgrass placed first in the shot put with a mark of 47-11, with Stigall in third to also qualify for state.
The two flipped positions in the discus, with Stigall winning the title with a personal-best mark of 164-6 and Snodgrass placing third at 155-0.
Raymond sophomore Chris Banker cleared six feet in the high jump to win the district title.
The Seagulls 4×100-relay team of Logan Frank, Snodgrass, Isaac Schlueter and Banker placed first with a time of 44.84.
