Robert Clifton Gardner, age 58, a resident of Seattle and a previous resident of Hoquiam, passed away on June 5, 2024, at his home in Seattle.

Robert was born on September 21, 1965, in Newport, Oregon.

We moved to Washington in 1974, where he attended school and graduated in 1985. He was a proud Hoquiam Grizzly and an outstanding athlete in track. He set the record for the 40-yard hurdles, a record that stands today. In addition, he was involved in the band, having been a member of pep-band and jazz band. In his junior year, he was assistant drum major, in his senior year, he was the drum major.

Bobby was the first in the history of Hoquiam high to receive both the Lewis Armstrong and Phillip Sousa awards. He was a friend to all. He didn’t just like people; he loved people, and especially his family.

He loved pets. He would tell any pet, “hello, friend.”

He attended the University of Washington, majoring in chemistry. In 1985 two Natives were selected for each state to attend the school of Chiropractic in Oregon. After attending college, he followed in his father’s footsteps and started his own roofing company in Seattle. His company was named “Gardner Roofing.”

Robert was a proud enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz, Oregon.

He served as a board member of the United Indians of all Tribes foundation in Seattle. He enjoyed the pow-wows in Seattle and Siletz, Oregon. He was a talented wood carver.

Surviving relations, are his beloved mother, Glenna Gardner; daughters Kylie Gardner, Mackenzie Gardner and Mickella Garder; a son, Kyle Selleck; sisters, Gail Gardner and Cheryl Gardner, brother John Gardner, nieces Alicia Staton and Erika Kiper; a great-niece, Audrey Staton; and nephews, Scot Carmichael and Brian VanOrsdol.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Gardner.

Funeral services will be held at Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam at 2 p.m, Friday, June 14, 2024, followed by a reception at the VFW in Hoquiam.

Interment will be on June 15th at the Logan cemetery in Otis, Oregon at 4 p.m.
