Paul Pankow passed away at his home on Thursday, July 18, 2024, with his children and his wife by his side. A life cut short at only 66 years old. Paul was born Sept. 10, 1957, in Boise Idaho to Alexander and Margaret (Burchett) Pankow. He was raised in Seattle and graduated from Bishop Blanchet High School in 1975. Paul proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1975 to 1981.
On March 20, 1986, Paul married Cindy Marquis in a civil ceremony with their mothers as witnesses so that they could buy a house with a VA loan. Both mothers laughed because it looked like a shotgun wedding. No, they weren’t pregnant although I am sure there was speculation. Paul and Cindy were married again on Sept. 17, 1986, in Newport Beach California in a Catholic service which they celebrated as their wedding day and in October of 1986 had an amazing wedding reception.
Paul played football in high school and in the Marine Corps. He was an avid fan and enjoyed watching college and pro games with his wife. Saturdays were definitely college football days where we watched game day and picked our underdogs or favorites. Although he was a Husky fan, he embraced the WSU Cougars since only crimson and gray were allowed in the family home. He was a good sport and as he said, “I am a Washington fan.” His favorite meal was breakfast, and it was even better if he got to go out to a restaurant with family and friends before the Seahawks played on Sundays.
In addition to his wife Cindy, Paul is survived by his son Drew (Farah) Pankow, and their daughter, Zoya, with another baby girl on the way. Paul will watch over his granddaughters from heaven. He is also survived by his daughter Megan Pankow and her husband Brandon LeBlanc. He was blessed to have been able to go down the aisle with her at her wedding in June. He so loved his children and embraced his daughter-in-law and son-in-law as if they were his own.
In addition to his wife and family, he is also survived by his siblings Phil Pankow, Mark Pankow, Ruth Aiken, Cathy Johnson, Margie Schwarz, and Therese Buckmeier. The Pankow clan is a big one so we will say and their spouses, children, and grandchildren. He loved each and every one of his family. He is now in the arms of his mom, dad, and brother Mike.
A memorial mass is being held on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Church in Shoreline, Washington. It was Cindy’s parish growing up and the Pankow parish for 20-plus years.
