GIRLS PREP SOCCER
Tenino 5, Aberdeen 2
Aberdeen’s young team learned a tough lesson on Saturday in a 5-2 loss to Tenino at Stewart Field in Aberdeen.
Poor communication in the Aberdeen defense led to a 2-0 halftime deficit for the Bobcats (1-2-1).
The Bobcats fell behind 3-0 15 minutes into the second half when a ball that wasn’t cleared by the Aberdeen defense led to a Tenino goal.
The Cats rallied for a pair of goals, one by junior midfielder Lila Ericksen and another on a shot by senior midfielder Scotlyn Lecomte in the 58th and 60th minutes, respectively.
But the Beavers added two more goals over the final quarter of the game to hand Aberdeen the loss.
“We played evenly in all areas except finishing and with some of the defensive and keeper mistakes we are making in the back,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “We’re going to continue to work to improve on these issues.”
Bobcats junior defender Alyssa Yakovich assisted on Aberdeen’s two goals and Fleming commended the performances of Lecomte, Kennedy Kolodzie and Hana Lessard.
Aberdeen’s junior varsity team lost 5-1 on Saturday.
The Bobcats play at Foster High School at 6 p.m. on Monday.
