Tumwater 7, Aberdeen 0

Aberdeen lost its 2A Evergreen League opener to Tumwater 7-0 on Wednesday in Tumwater.

The Bobcats (3-3-1, 0-1 2A Evergreen) kept the juggernaut Thunderbirds (3-1-2, 1-0) – who had won their previous two games by identical 11-1 scores – off the scoreboard for the first 25 minutes of the match.

But a goal by Tumwater’s Lucy Bergford scored in the 26th minute and Aberdeen faced a 3-0 halftime hole after Emalyn Schaffer and Kayla Pope added goals in the 35th and 37th minutes, respectively.

Despite playing a five defenders, one forward set, Aberdeen couldn’t keep the high-powered T-Birds from adding to their lead.

Tumwater scored four goals in the second half, including a Pope penalty kick and capped by Esther Vuong’s Olympico goal off a corner kick.

“Overall I was proud of our effort against an obviously superior soccer team that has just crushed teams this season,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “We made them work very hard for most of their goals and that was all I asked of our team tonight.”

Fleming cited Bobcats Hana Lessard, Kendalynn Garman, Joie Mayberry, Alyssa Yakovich and Scotlyn Lecomte for their play on defense.

Aberdeen hosts Centralia at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Aberdeen 0 0 – 0

Tumwater 3 4 – 7
