Sauer leads Monte to one-stroke win over Elma at league-title meet

The final team result couldn’t be any closer as Montesano edged Elma by one stroke to win the 1A Evergreen League championship meet on Wednesday at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course in Tumwater.

Led by junior Ayhdn Sauer’s league-championship victory with an 18-hole round of 83, the Bulldogs finished with 358 strokes to 359 for Elma to win the overall team title.

Joining Sauer for Monte’s final score were sophomore Colton Grubb (88, 3rd), sophomore Caden Grubb (92, 7th) and junior Rufus Krasowski (95, 10th).

Elma was led by senior Robby Allen, who placed second with a score of 86.

The Eagles’ overall score was rounded out by sophomore Trey Yeager (89, 4th-tie), senior T.J. Dunlap (90, 6th) and senior Brody Palmer (94, 9th).

Hoquiam was led by junior Noah Taylor, who placed 15th overall with a score of 108.

The 1A District 4 Tournament will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course.

Hoquiam 207, Kalama 227

Hoquiam won its regular-season finale 207-227 over Kalama on Tuesday at Highland Golf Course in Cosmopolis.

Hoquiam was led by Daymond Cole, who shot a 46 over the front-9 that included pars on the par-4 5th and 8th holes.

Cole was joined on the scoreboard by teammates Noah Taylor (52), Ethan McLucas (54) and Ronald Landon (55).

Kalama’s Nolan Scott earned Medalist honors with a low score of 41.

GIRLS PREP SWIMMING

Aberdeen 139, Shelton 44

Aberdeen won 10 of 12 events to defeat Shelton 139-144 on Wednesday at the Grays Harbor YMCA in Hoquiam.

The Bobcats were led by senior Mija Hood, who won two individual races – the 100-yard butterfly and 100 backstroke – and swam on two of the Bobcats’ three victorious relay teams.

The Bobcats will compete at the Kelso Invitational on Saturday in Kelso.
