PREP FOOTBALL

Adna 14, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 0

Too many turnovers and not enough offensive punch led to Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s 14-0 loss to Adna on Thursday in Adna.

Playing on a wet, muddy natural surface, the Titans (5-4 overall, 3-2 2B Central-West) committed five turnovers and struggled to get much going on offense without standout senior running back Cody Strozyk out with a leg injury.

PWV’s offense managed just 107 total yards – nine via the run – and five first downs, leading to a loss in a battle for the No. 2 playoff seed out of the 2B Central-West League.

The Titans defense kept PWV in the game, trailing 6-0 at the half before a fumbled Adna snap at their own 1-yard line gave the Titans new life. But the Titans fumbled on the very next possession, recovering the ball in the end zone for an Adna safety.

Wishkah Valley 44, WA School for Deaf 19

Wishkah Valley secured a 1B 6-man playoff spot with a 44-19 win over the Washington School for the Deaf on Thursday in Vancouver.

The Loggers (4-2, 3-2 1B Coastal 6-man) locked up the 1B Coastal 6-man League’s No. 3 playoff seed thanks in large part to the performance of Boady Dhooghe, who made his first start at quarterback.

Dhooghe had what Wishkah head coach Eric Erickson called “an outstanding game,” completing 13 of 17 passes for 184 yards and five touchdowns to just one interception.

Matthew Erickson caught seven passes for 115 yards and five touchdowns while also rushing for a Loggers score.

Wishkah’s Kohl Brandner caught five passes for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns and teammate Drew Stewart caught a 5-yard touchdown pass in the victory.

The Loggers totalled 86 rushing yards from five different ball-carriers on Thursday.

Erickson led the defense with 10 tackles while Brandner had three interceptions, including a 35 yard pick-six for a score.

Dhooghe added an interception for the opportunistic Loggers, which will find out their playoff fate on Sunday.

“I was very happy with the team’s performance overall. It feels like we’re getting back on track after our two losses,” Coach Erickson said. “I was especially happy with the performances of Boady Dhooghe, Matthew Erickson and Kohl Brandner. I’m seeing a lot of on-field leadership from them in addition to their high level of play.”

Wishkah hosts Easton at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Loggers’ regular-season finale.
