Stephen “Steve” Maki, a longtime resident of Ocean City, Washington,“The man in the white hat,” passed away Oct. 9, 2024, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, due to COVID.

He was born March 28, 1942, to Eric and Helen Maki of Aberdeen. He graduated from Weatherwax High in 1960, then joined the Navy in 1960-1964 and served as a Navy Reserved 1964-1970, and worked as a Biological Technician for US Naval Radiological Defense Dept.

Back to Aberdeen to work at ITT Rayonier as a Process Control Technician 1972-1993. ASARCO Hydrometrics Divisions as a Lab Tech. 1994-1997. And retired from the city of Ocean Shores Wastewater Plant as a Lab Tech. 1972-1993.

He enjoyed hiking, camping and his family. Once retired he discovered Black Powder shoots and rendezvous with great people, thank-you for that. Steve and Patty’s 48 years were too short, I love and miss you. Steve was so proud of our sons Caleb (Erica) and Ira (Gretchen) but the ones that called him Papa, Andrew, Alex and Yma always made for smiles and laughter.

Steve had one sister Gayle and her sons Rob (James, Isabella and Robbie) and James.

Steve wanted no service, so have a GOOD shot of Scotch and give him a toast!
