Alvina Marie Brooks, age 91, passed away on Oct. 14, 2024, at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma.

Alvina Marie Brooks, age 91, passed away on Oct. 14, 2024, at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma. Alvina was born on July 29, 1933, in Escanaba, Michigan to Eli and Anna (Jensen) LaLande. She was one of six children. After the death of her mother, the family moved to Grays Harbor County. She attended Hoquiam High School and married William (Don) Lacefield in November 1951. They settled in Grass Creek where they raised their five children.

Alvina considered the time raising her kids the best years of her life. She was very involved during the school years by volunteering, sewing dresses and costumes, and enthusiastically attending all school and sporting events. She loved to cook and bake and was also an avid quilter and doll maker. Over the years, she lovingly made many quilts and various items for family and friends. Additionally, when the kids became older, she worked for many years in an office at ITT Rayonier. Alvina and Don later divorced.

Alvina later married William (Bill) Brooks and moved to Packwood, Washington. They started and owned a hardware store for many years. After selling the store, they lived in Bend, Oregon, and Littlerock, Washington and finally McCleary, Washington.

Alvina is survived by a sister, Dorothy Rykman; a daughter, Debra Knorpp; a son, Mark Lacefield and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, William Brooks; sons Steven Lacefield, Gary Lacefield; and daughter, Linda Peterson; sisters, Helen Bergstrom, Lila Wood; and brothers, Bob LaLande and Andy LaLande.

A private celebration of life was held by the immediate family.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
