“Good home win tonight against a very up-tempo and strong Taholah Chitwhins squad,” Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan said. “Taholah coaches had them ready to play as we were never able to break away as they always seemed to climb back. The Chitwhins will be strong in their league this season.”

Hoquiam outrebounded Taholah 41-22 and had 15 steals as a team.

The Chitwhins (0-1) were led by freshman guard Maliah Pluff with 13 points and had 28 turnovers as a team compared to 22 for Hoquiam.

Allan said his team is still working on rounding into form.

”Grizzlies are still trying to find our identity and roles as we improve every game with new experiences and challenges. I was very happy with our efforts in spurts and look forward to our fundamental growth. Our best days are ahead of us,” he said. “We are still trying to find our rhythm and flow to the game and it is great to find ways to win while making mistakes. Growth can be ugly at times.”

Hoquiam faces Aberdeen in the Myrtle Street Rivalry at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Aberdeen High School.

Taholah hosts Clallam Bay in a non-league game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
