BOYS PREP SWIMMING
Aberdeen sixth at sprint pentathlon
Aberdeen’s boys swim team took to the rainy roads to Longview for the Mark Morris Sprint Pentathlon on Saturday.
Aberdeen took sixth overall as a team, with senior Jacob Hallak taking 13th overall in the individual standings.
“This is a fun meet – no pressure – just compete and swim,” Aberdeen head coach Rob Burns said. “We saw a lot of competitive swims, plenty of time drops and some interesting swims in the sprints. It is a good meet to gauge where everyone is and to set the tone for a productive upcoming holiday break.”
Many of Aberdeen’s swimmers improved on their previous district-qualifying times on Saturday. However, sophomore Cooper Gill joined the group with a district time in the 100 backstroke at 1:14.17, a near 4-second time drop.
Junior Cole Nylander was the second AHS swimmer to get fourth place overall on the day in the 100 breast, joining Hallak, who was fourth in the 25 free and 100 backstroke.
Coach Burns cited Gill for his district-qualifying swim, as well as Hallak for his overall day, junior diver Micah Schroeder for his work in his first swim-only meet of the season and senior Denny Linker for his overall day as well.
On Saturday Aberdeen will host an alumni meet, which is open to all Grays Harbor alumni swimmers – men or women – at the YMCA of Grays Harbor in Hoquiam. Warm-up is at 10:30 a.m. and the meet starts at 11 a.m.
For more information or to express interest in swimming, contact Coach Rob Burns at rburns@asd5.org.
