Toutle Lake 39, Raymond-South Bend 38
Raymond-South Bend saw a would-be victory escape in the final seconds of a 39-38 loss to Toutle Lake on Wednesday at South Bend High School
The Ravens (3-2 overall) led 16-11 at the half of what RSB head coach Jason Koski dubbed “a defensive battle” against the Ducks (5-1).
Foul troubles plagued RSB in the third quarter as Toutle Lake made 5-of-12 foul shots to take a 26-24 lead heading to the final eight minutes of play.
Raymond-South Bend point guard Megan Kongbouakhay hit a pair of clutch free throws to give the Ravens a 38-37 lead with 40 seconds left in the game.
Toutle Lake responded with a putback off an offensive rebound to regain the lead at 39-38 with 24 seconds on the clock.
Raymond-South Bend came up empty on the final possession of the game to suffer the loss.
”We had a good look at a short shot but just missed at the buzzer,” Koski said. “Really proud how the kids battled a very athletic, competitive team and never wavered. We will be better from a game like this. We will need to shoot better as the season progresses.”
Kongbouakhay led RSB with 12 points while Kassie Koski (8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks) and Ava Pine-Isaksen (8 pts., 12 reb.) scored eight points apiece for the Ravens.
RSB had more fouls in the game (15) than turnovers (12).
The Ravens outrebounded the Ducks 33-28, with Liz Lewis grabbing seven boards for RSB.
The Ravens play at Onalaska at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Aberdeen 57, Rochester 30
Aberdeen righted a lot of wrongs in a 57-30 win over Rochester on Tuesday at Rochester High School.
The Bobcats (2-3) led by double digits after one quarter and were in control up 35-14 by halftime against the Warriors (0-7), which is mostly comprised of sophomores and freshman.
“I feel very pleased. Compared to our previous game, we really did a better job with our mental mistakes. We eliminated a lot of mental mistakes,” Aberdeen head coach Curtis Eccles said, adding his team improved in nearly every facet of the game. “We did a much better job of blocking out, which has been an emphasis because we’ve been outrebounded in our previous games. … We saw a lot of good things last night we can carry over into our upcoming games. It was a good, all-around team effort. Everyone contributed in one way or another.”
Ten of Aberdeen’s 12 players scored in the game with all 12 getting floor time in the win.
Guard Bentley Brown led the Bobcats with 12 points while Shay Dunlap also scored in double digits with 10.
Forward Abby Mainio had a game-high seven steals as the Cats forced 31 Warriors turnovers while limiting their own to 14.
Delaney Shoemaker led Aberdeen with eight rebounds while Mainio, Brown and point guard Sophia Knutson had five assists apiece for a Cats squad that had 18 assists as a team.
Aberdeen will be off for winter break and will resume play against Rainier at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.

BOYS PREP BASKETBALL
Sultan 67, Hoquiam 35
Not much went well for Hoquiam in a 67-35 loss to Sultan on Wednesday at Sultan High School.
The Grizzlies (3-4) fell behind 17-6 after one quarter and never got back in the game as Hoquiam shot 16 for 46 from the field (34.8%) and committed 19 turnovers.
“There’s not a whole lot to say tonight. We just got beat, handled and dominated,” Hoquiam head coach Jeff Niemi said. “Message to the kids was it’s got to matter and we’ve got to get better.”
Point guard Lincoln Niemi scored eight points to lead the Grizzlies while Ryker Maxfield had six points and a team-high seven assists in the game.
The Turks (3-7) outrebounded Hoquiam 40-23 and shot 50% on 28-of-56 shooting in the contest.
Hoquiam will play for the second time in as many days when the Grizzlies host Ocosta at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.

GIRLS PREP WRESTLING
Aberdeen 42, Raymond-South Bend 16
Aberdeen won seven of 10 head-to-head matches to defeat Raymond-South Bend 42-16 in a dual meet on Tuesday at Aberdeen High School.
All seven of Aberdeen’s victories were via pinfall to earn the Bobcats extra team points.
Aberdeen winners were Gracie Bryson (100 pounds), Micah Turpin (105), Kenia Mendoza (110), Daisey Vessey (115), Hayden Horn (130), Asha Martin (155) and Mycah Good (170).
The Ravens got pinfall wins by Mikayla Angelovich (120) and Madison Boothe (135) with Madelyn Baugher earning a 12-3 victory in a 140-pound match.

Aberdeen swept three matches to defeat Tenino in a dual meet on Tuesday at Aberdeen High School.
Aberdeen 130-pounders Felicia Bell and Ava Benn earned pinfall victories as did Abigail Warmoth at 190 to sweep the head-to-head matchups against the Beavers.
Aberdeen hosts W.F. West in the school’s first ever girls-only wrestling dual meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
