Raymond-South Bend 19, Centralia 11
Raymond-South Bend hammered eight extra-base hits and capitalized on Centralia errors to earn a 19-11 season-opening victory on Thursday in Centralia.
The Ravens (1-0) trailed 4-1 after two innings of play before the offense exploded for 12 runs over the next three frames.
RSB would take an 8-4 lead on an Emma Glazier two-run home run in the top of the fourth and took a 13-5 lead on an error later in the frame.
Leading 13-10 in the top of the seventh, the Ravens added six runs highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of second baseman Liz Lewis.
Ravens catcher Ava Pine led RSB at the dish, going 3 for 5 with a double, four runs scored and a solo home run in the first inning.
The Ravens benefitted from a mistake-prone Tigers defense as 18 of RSB’s 19 runs scored were unearned.
Macey Enlow earned the win for the Ravens, allowing 12 runs – seven earned – on 13 hits and nine walks with two strikeouts over seven innings.
“Every single person contributed and it truly was such a fun day of softball,” RSB head coach Dakota Fluke said. “Even at one point we were losing and I said, ‘We’re winning in so many ways right now.’ You could tell the girls have been paying attention to what I say at practice because they were trying to do it during the game, which is so rewarding. They trusted me, trusted themselves and trusted each other, that’s something you can’t coach.”
RSB faces Wahkiakum at 4 p.m. on Monday at Wahkiakum High School.
