RAYMOND — Experienced Raymond opened its volleyball season in impressive fashion by beating Class 1A Hoquiam, 25-15, 25-17, 25-11, in a non-league match Tuesday night at Raymond.
The Gulls, who start six seniors, were in control from the outset.
“It was a really good all-around team performance,” Raymond coach Bob Swogger sad. “It was one of our most balanced matches. We passed well and attacked well.”
Hailee Smith led the Raymond attack with nine kills and 21 digs. She also served six aces.
“She’s an amazing server when she’s on,” Swogger said.
Aubree Gardner added five kills and 18 digs and Mikalya Collins 13 digs and five kills for the Gulls.
Kamimi Papp had seven kills and Ashley Paladin 26 digs for Hoquiam, which is regrouping after heavy graduation losses.
“We did some good things and we found things we really need to work on,” Grizzly coach Heather Bozich said. “Raymond, they’re a tough team. They played very well.”
Hoquiam won the JV match, 23-25, 25-22, 16-14. Raymond’s C squad prevailed in two sets.
Both teams will be on the road Thursday. Raymond visits Onalaska, while Hoquiam takes on Seton Catholic at Camas Middle School.
