Like many of you, we are taking steps to preserve our business that we never would have imagined a short time ago. For us, one of those steps is temporarily suspending publication of The Vidette. This week’s edition will be the last one for the time being.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created an environment where local journalism is more important than ever. For now, the Grays Harbor Newspaper Group — which includes The Vidette and The North Coast News, which suspended publication last week — will focus its resources on The Daily World.
It was a difficult decision. The Vidette has been an integral part of East County and Grays Harbor for more than 100 years.
But we remain committed to the area, and I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to resume publication in the near future. In the meantime, we’re continuing to cover the East County as The Daily World has for more than a century.
If you are a Vidette subscriber, we will automatically convert your subscription to a special Thursday and Saturday Daily World subscription at no additional cost. If you already subscribe to both papers, we will suspend your Vidette service until we are able to reintroduce the paper to the community.
Readers will also have 24/7 access to thedailyworld.com, which offers continual updates on everything happening on Grays Harbor.
As the official paper of record for Grays Harbor County, The Vidette publishes most of the legal notices that are required to inform the public of general government and legal matters. For now, those will be published in The Daily World.
We’ve had to make reductions and cut our work hours, but we remain committed to covering this community as we all respond to perhaps the highest-stakes challenge of our lifetimes. If you value local journalism, please consider visiting thedailyworld.com and subscribing to our digital edition — or to our print publication, which also includes full digital access.
Thank you for your continued support.
