A new South Bend School Foundation is just several months away from being finalized. A foundation has been a dream for many years in South Bend and with support from the Cheney Foundation it will soon be a reality.
The foundation is currently being spearheaded by three board members, Secretary Emma Rose, Treasurer Bunny Williams and myself as president. Current South Bend School Superintendent Jon Tienhaara is a non-voting member of the foundation and is helping in the formation as well. Once the foundation is up and running more board members will likely be added.
The mission statement of the foundation is “To support and enhance the overall education experience of South Bend School District P-12 students and provide post secondary scholarship opportunities for South Bend graduates.”
The foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations will be tax deductible. The board will be planning fundraising events and hope that the community, graduates and others will support the foundation by supporting these events and through other generous means.
We are excited about the foundation coming to fruition. It has been explored several times in the past but never got off the ground. It is a great opportunity for our kids, and another way for the others to support South Bend kids in a variety of means. We will be opening up a bank account very soon and will be reaching out to folks on social media in the near future with more information.
