I read with stunned disbelief the “hit piece” written by Al Franken published as an opinion in The Daily World Saturday, Feb. 27.
I am a Republican; I am neither a “left-wing,” nor a “right-wing.” If anything, I am a “Center Wing.” However, no matter what political opinion one has, it is difficult for me to comprehend the insensitive thinking behind the decision to publish the “Opinion” written by Mr. Franken.
To me it is quite depressing to think that a former U.S. senator would write something so demeaning by taking things out of context and using all the fabricated clichés of the progressive left against anyone who disagrees with them: sexist, racist, homophobic, promoting violence and aggression. He even indirectly blamed the late Mr. Limbaugh for the Jan. 6 riot.
Mr. Limbaugh was a man of intellect and humor who had the courage to say that he loved America, and would speak his own thoughts even though they might might evoke criticism and not be “politically correct.” He presented with a passionate, but cheerful disposition, and opened the windows to other points of view not available from the main stream media.
I would agree that millions of Americans were puzzled when President Donald Trump bestowed on Rush Limbaugh the nation’s highest civilian honor at the State of the Union speech in 2020 . This is because a lot of people had heard nothing good about any Republican, especially a prominent one like Limbaugh, for the previous four years — the thinking being that anything associated with Donald Trump has got to be deplorable. The truth of the matter is that Limbaugh cared deeply for freedom, democracy, the Constitution and the United States. He was loved by his family and respected by millions. The seemingly unrestrained hate of the progressive left seems to have no bounds. Then, here is my community newspaper publishing a gratuitously hateful attack on a man who has just died after a courageous battle with cancer. It is profoundly depressing to me that the paper to which I subscribe would publish such a vicious article filled with hateful rhetoric accompanied by an equally offensive political “cartoon.”
Shame on you!
