Sorry, crude oil stinks

The answer will be on the wind

The Nov. 15, article in The Daily World concerning crude oil and air quality quoted the Contanda (formerly Westway) port manager stating the odor issue was never a concern “because this product isn’t supposed to have any.” Tell that to people who live near similar crude oil terminals.

In simple terms, “It stinks!”

Perhaps the plant manager and the Department of Ecology’s Environmental Impact Statement don’t know that the wind blows in Grays Harbor. It usually blows from the west to the east. If the terminal is permitted, all those folks living east of the terminal, even those up on the hills, should get some very unpleasant reminders that Hoquiam has become an oil town. And on the occasions we get a Nor’easter, the rest of the Harbor and those visitors heading for a pleasant day at the beaches can share the stink.

Please urge Brian Shay and the consultants the city hires to deny the permit!
